It's crazy, but the possibility of Lampard being replaced was raised as far back as August. Tensions with Marina Granovskaia and players were key factors.

speaking of which, bruce has now banned any media questions at his press conferences at carcrash fc, after no wins in 10 games and no goals in 12 and a half hours of football - jones is in for a jolly old time

It sounds as though personal issues rather than performance issues were the deciding factor here - i.e. falling out with important figures within the club.
So probably more personal politics than footballing matters by the sound of it.
A real shame for Lampard and the fans though.
 
Thought he did well last season when Chelsea had to get the best out of their academy lads. Makes you wonder who makes the decisions to spend £200m and does the manager get much say in that?
