Last Game Before International Break
With the football season in its infancy, with three Premier League games played and one League Cup (EFL) game, we are already heading for an international break. Before that the Cherries have an away league game against Leicester City (the Foxes). They are managed by Brendan Rodgers who took on the job earlier this year after leaving Celtic. After his first game in charge Leicester had played 29 games were in 11th position on 35 points (AFCB 12th on 34), at the end of the season Leicester City had moved up two places to finish in 9th position with 52 points (AFCB had dropped two places to finish on 45 points). This season Leicester City after 3 games are in 4th place with 5 points. The Cherries are in 11th place with 4 points.
In the Summer transfer window, Leicester City signed four players. Midfield player Youri Tielemans from Monaco for £35 million a club record. He had been on loan at Leicester for part of the previous season. Forward Ayoze Perez from Newcastle for £30 million. Midfield player Dennis Praet from Sampdoria for £18 million. Full back James Justin from Luton for an undisclosed fee. Harry Maguire left Leicester City to join Manchester United for £80 million, a world record fee for a defender.
The Foxes started the season with two draws and a win. Their first game was at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), this finished 0-0. They then travelled to London to play Chelsea in their first away game of the season, this also ended in a draw 1-1. Their third games was also away, this time up in Yorkshire to play newcomers Sheffield United. Leicester City came away with all three points. Wednesday night they were away playing Newcastle United in the League Cup (EFL) and won in a penalty shootout after drawing 1-1 at full time.
In our first three seasons in the Premier League playing away at Leicester, all our games ended in a draw. Last season that ‘spell’ was broken with a 2-0 home win for Leicester City. In all league games at Leicester, AFCB have W 2, D 3, L3. In all competitions, AFCB have W 5, D 5, L 7.
Leicester C Team News
They had a good number of first team players play the full game at Newcastle in the League Cup on Wednesday night. That included Maddison and Vardy who both scored penalties in the shootout and have been regular starters in the league side. On their injury front they have/had four players missing. Ben Chilwell (groin), Wilfred Ndidi (thigh), Matthew James (achilles) and Daniel Amartey (ankle).
Leicester C Player To Watch
James Maddison has been a very good signing and last season he struck up a good partnership with Jamie Vardy, like our Fraser and Wilson one. Maddison is a strong all round midfield player and has an eye for goal as well.
AFCB Team News
The usual long term injuries, who have now been joined by Charlie Daniels (knee), taken off in our last home league game. Lewis Cook has returned to training, no news yet of when he will be ready for selection. No news of any new injuries after the victory via penalty shootout win against Forest Green Rovers in the League Cup, with the game itself finishing 0-0.
AFCB Player To Watch
With our forwards yet to fire on all cylinders and get on the score sheet, will look to midfield and Harry Wilson who has found an eye for goal with two goals to his name so far. Jefferson Lerma has been reliable for us so far this season.
