Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth

Exactly that, I know we still see ourselves as third division Bournemouth, but realistically Chelsea and Man City won nothing in the 70s, 80s, and 90s so can hardly be deemed 'big clubs'. Hell 20 years ago we were playing City in the third tier, why sholdn;t we be the next big club, just will take investment is all
...history?...surely football started with The PL...in which case Chelsea,Man City, and Leicester City are big clubs!

A little bit bigger than you think:-

Chelsea FA Cup winners 1970 & 1997, FL Cup 1998, EUFA Cup Winners 1971 & 1998 Second Division Winners 1984 & 1989

Man City Second Division playoff 1999, FL Cup 1970 & 1976, Community Shield 1972 *

* Normally, the Charity Shield would have been contested by the First Division champions and FA Cup holders, who were Derby County and Leeds United, but both declined the chance to play in the Charity Shield. Instead, Manchester City, who had finished in fourth place in the First Division; and Aston Villa, who finished as Third Division champions accepted the invitation to play.

So the rumbelows cup which we play our kids in, a tarted up anglo italian cup that we don't even bother to enter and a charity shield that even the teams that qualified for didn't want to play. Wow, really puts our Hants Senior Cups and associate Members Trophy into perspective doesn't it?

Teams didn't play their kids in comps back then.
