Man City...

I mean what are City going to do? They can't just stop cheating while under investigation because that graph would look very dubious with a big dip in revenue wouldn't it?

Manchester City have confirmed they have lodged an appeal after an independent commission found the club guilty of all charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations.

In a short statement, the club said the commission's ruling contained "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe".

Asserting its innocence, the club added it had filed "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence [that] exists in support of all of its positions" on Thursday evening.

THE Whole PL..needs investigating..MC is only a small part of the sh*t that's has gone down since we converted from the old First Division.
It was a terrible thing..a terrible terrible thing to mess with something that was fine as it was.

Progress doesn't always mean that the stuff that is changed is for the better.

Bye for now...I'm off up Spoons Garden for a Brian 7 Seminar - around 7 of us convene most Fridays to thrash out topical issues ...I'm usually in the Big Chair with my Minister for Doom, 'Shuffling Bob' Trevelyn and my Secretary for Cynicism 'Grubber' Shrubshaw on the flanks...good ol' Cornish boys who can turn a good breeze into a gale ..weirdly both are Everton fans...which is kinda nice...and they like the Cherries !
I don't always win the arguments which is also kinda nice !

The 'invention' of The PL has been a good thing for football in many ways, and initially was great for promoting an English top league. However it probably began to hyper inflate from the early 2000's into a leviathan that gave many owners the chance to 'sportswash' millions of pounds through the system, it neede to be nipped in the bud then but was allowed to spiral out of control.
Now we have a state where the majority of clubs are foreign owned and to those who don't get the game in this country and have ridden rough shod over fans and traditions. To allow countries with dubious human life beliefs and methods like the Saudi's and others has ruined the model IMO. The current PL rules regarding how money injected can be spent has been the undoing of fair competition, I find this whole Manchester City thing a bit hypocritical as The PL have been more than happy to see them raise the profile of it's league, the outcome of all this could implode and tear down their house. Etihad are going to challenge them and others may follow from the wreckage of this mess.

I tell you no one is going to be a winner in the long term, and we could be witnessing the huge bubble bursting soon?

I've not read the thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating anything, or re-opening stuff that's been done to death.

The consensus among the people I've talked to about this is, the rules are protectionist bullshit, and Man city should be punished severely for breaking them, and the rules should be rewritten.

This debacle destroys the argument that clubs just need to be well run, scout well and recruit managers well and then they too can compete. Look at you, Brighton and Brentford, well run, scouting well and recruiting managers well. With all due respect, you're nowhere near challenging consistently for the Champions League spots, let alone the title. Man City had to break the financial rules to the tune of nearly £1bn to be a genuine threat. But not in the same way as Chelsea did... that's not as bad because reasons.

Debt-Linked Anchoring seems fair to me.

Wouldn't anchoring mean that any club with loads of external cash to spend would just hit the top limit alongside the Sky Six making being well run even less important?

Well, not really, because a poorly run club will run into more and more non capex debt which lowers their spend cap, if they don't scout well they'll have expensive flops and get pulled into a transfer-debt loop which eats into their spend-cap. If they recruit the wrong manager, they'll need to replace him and inevitably that means buying new players, which again eats into the spend-cap. If they don't grow their infrastructure and revenue streams they're going to struggle to finance the deals long term.

The PL was a disaster from the start for all clubs outside it.

They began with greed as their aim, and its just worse year on year.

Gotta laugh...every middle-class and chav village idiot and his dog on Man City's case now..that includes some deluded dudes on here.
..Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool off Scot -free !

We want our Football back...and our Nation back...like it was in the Good Old Days !

I dunno . I can think of one village idiot that’s droning on about Manu,Chelsea and Liverpool .
So you don't think those clubs are in any way guilty of using Money to gain advantage over smaller clubs in the Football pyramid....
...and facilitating an impenetrable Elite group at the top ?
That's what has been happening since the PL started...and supported by Sky etcetera.
I don't see why we shouldn't 'drone on' about the situation if we feel strongly about it...perhaps I should just passively back off and accept there will never be a levelling up.

As a matter of interest .. do you think Foley is going to take us to the summit of success, not relatively speaking regarding our size ..but actually on a level with the likes of Manu and Liverpool ?
...because I think, that he thinks, that is the path we are on. These are rich people.

The difference between Manu/ Liverpool and ManC is this . The first two have always been massive ! Probably the largest fanbase in the country and gigantic across the world they have always had an advantage because they play in a professional league where money will always talk it’s the same now as it was way before the PL . It’s why the biggest clubs remain the biggest and most successful . There will be the odd blip but look at historic league tables , they are always up there .

Where City differ is they were not big enough to have the success their owners wanted immediately ( to win everything) . Rather than wait and slowly build up their club in a somewhat fair way they cheated to gain Instant success to the tune of 900 million this was pure greed and entitlement that has landed City where they are ….if you have a link to share to show another club has done close to this please put up or shut up .

In the 1980’s they were in Division 2 with us.

Go on 1988-89 season.

Can't quite see how that relates to my post regarding Manu, Chelsea and Liverpool.

That's all bullshit ..City were as big as Utd before the Munich Air Crash...and easily as big as Liverpool and Chelsea back the through the history of the English league...they hit a bad patch in the 80's but slowly came back.
Liverpool and Chelsea have been in the lower league..so have Manu !

I assumed perhaps you followed us and Millwall, now I'm leaning towards us and Liverpool or Man U :D.

The only people I've come across with such strong view towards breaking the clearly anti competition rules and their rightful place is p1ssed off United fans ;)

Can't provide what you're request... heres another angle, looking at the last decade or so of winners and runners up. Theres an obvious black swan event in there - interestingly, they provided another black swan event a few years later, by achieving something the established clubs havent... Relegation.

So looking at runners up, who would have more titles to their name if City didnt win the pl?

Chelsea on the periphery there of breaking the big club stranglehood - now how did they suddenly start winning leagues in the 2000's - before FFP was allowed to turn into the most glaringly artificial, anti-competition rules in a professional sport.

Now's the time to change it man, not to double down on bullshit rules - pl are almost on the ropes here, and for the greater good of the sport, genuine football fans should be on city side, and hope they knock the pl rules the f out.

Unless you're a United fan of course, and/or perhaps....
