Manchester C v AFC Bournemouth

Cup Winners For Last Three Seasons

After the long journey up to the North East last week to play Middlesbrough in the Championship and bring back a point from a team we have never beaten on their own patch, the Cherries turn their attention to the League Cup and a trip up to the North West this time.

This game couldn’t be any more difficult, AFCB meet the holders of the trophy for the last three seasons, Manchester City. City are coming into this competition in the third round because of European competitions. AFCB arrived into the third round after beating Crystal Palace 11-10 on penalties after the tie ending in a 0-0 draw.

Manchester City have only played one Premier League game this season and that started with a 1-3 away victory against Wolves. The City side had our former player Nathan Ake in their starting lineup. Nathan as we know signed for City during the Summer break for a fee of £41 million. Their other signing so far has been winger Fernan Torres from Valencia for £20.8 million. Torres came on as a late substitution for Raheem Sterling against Wolves.

Our last meeting was an away game against Manchester City back in July. That time our side was beaten 2-1 after putting on a good performance. Nathan Ake was missing from our side due to injury. Even though City had 73% of possession, the Cherries had more shots 15 against 8 from City. City had one more on target in their 4 against 3 for AFCB. This cup game will see a more youthful side and Guardiola will be using academy players according to their website due to injuries and illness. We may well see changes and JT putting out a team not dissimilar to the one that started against Palace.
We have never met Manchester City in a cup competition before. In all our games against City, AFCB have W 0, D 2, L 14.

Manchester C Team News
Injured players are Sergio Aguero, Joao Cancelo, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Bernard Silva and Eric Garcia. Two players who have been out through Covid-19 are Ilkay Gundogan and Aymeric Laporte.

Manchester C Player To Watch
Would like to say Nathan Ake, but he may be rested for their next league game. We may see another young first team player get a start in Phil Foden.

AFCB Team News
Junior Stanislas had a slight injury and missed the Middlesbrough game. Josh King is available and might get some game time to build up match fitness.

AFCB Player To Watch
Josh King if he starts his first game of the season for us. Sam Surridge will most likely start and will be looking for his first goal of the season.

City confirmed they’d be fielding virtually an academy side for this game, literally lost all interest in this. It’s virtually a pre season friendly against Man City under 21s.

Re live feeds, worth saying that in the efl it’s a form of income for clubs who can’t get gate receipts. Vital for some clubs and expect a lot of fans view it as a way of helping their respective clubs rather than a means to find it free by other (legal or not) means
Well said

With the present situation going to go on longer, they need to get the feed working correctly, unlike Blackburn and the latest Middlesbrough game which it seems had picture but not sound.

I will use club feed if it works, only used it so far for Blackburn game, otherwise it has been Solent via DAB with Kris and Willo banter which I like.

Interesting comment from Frank Lampard. He has said that he is not allowed to call up a few academy players to the first team to be involved in the EFL Cup due to the bubbles that the players are in.

So if Pep is discussing using academy players it could well be a full academy side and not a mix of the odd first team player? I can’t see why Man City would be any different to Chelsea in regards to those regulations?

Sure understand and agree. The sound issues ruined my enjoyment of the Boro game; lost kris temple commentary vs palace; and I lost 5 mins of the first half during Blackburn so I wasn’t happy - it doesn’t encourage me re future games.

Reality is though that we aren’t going to get sky quality given small audience levels and soon many clubs will need all the income they can get if no crowds are let in.

If that’s the case then for us the likes of Zemura, Anthony, Corey Jordan etc can’t play with the under 23s and just purely stay and train with the first team even though they’ll get little or no league playing time
