Marcos Senesi

Apparently he is very superstitious, always wears the same clothes to games including underpants.
so his bird says and she should know.

‘Including underpants.’

Now we know why he is so dominant in our defence and coming forward starting attacks.

No opposition player goes to near him. ;) :grinning:

Great season for him, wish he was going to stay as Hill and himself look solid at the back and who would of thought that when they first played alongside one another

No surprise, but now confirmed.

AFC Bournemouth can confirm that Marcos Senesi will leave the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract, bringing an end to four memorable years on the south coast.

Since arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, the centre-back has been a key figure in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.

A commanding presence at the heart of the defence, he has made 124 appearances for the Cherries and played an important role in helping the club cement its place in the Premier League.

It’s not a surprise. But timings wise I think it’s odd.

Of course we don’t know what move he’s got lined up. No doubt with a hefty pay rise.

But unless it’s a clear step up, with Champions League football on the table next season. Personally, I’d have waited a couple of weeks to see what happens here.

Agreed.

I think the financial aspect will take precedence for him, and understandably so. It's likely the last big contract of his career and his stock has never been as high. He's a player who has been highlighted as key to our success in the PL and has broken into the Argentina team.

He'll get a massive signing on fee and a weekly wage that goes beyond our reported pay cap of £100k/week.

I don't think us qualifying, or not, for the CL will impact it in any way.

Yeah thats what I think too. His stock has never been as high, hes never earnt a particularly high wage (by top flight standards), so this will be his big pay day.

Probably will stay in europe... but who knows, if a Saudi club offer him 200k plus a week with huge signing on fee...

I don’t disagree with any of that.

But just in general, I do think the point of being popular at a football club or achieving something in your career is underplayed.

Sure, make as much money as you can, as quickly as you can because it’s a short career. But it’s not like he’s been on the breadline whilst he’s been playing for us. So why not want to do something that you can look back on with pride whilst in retirement?

Just look at Fletch, absolute legend, job for life etc etc, if he had moved about chasing more pennies here and there during his career he may well have earned more money but he wouldn’t be remembered at any of the clubs he’d jumped from one to the next. The goal against Grimsby wouldn’t have been the written in the stars moment that it was etc.

He may well be at Crystal Palace with Lerma next season. More money, London lifestyle etc etc, but hopefully looking back at us watching us in Europe knowing that could have been him.

If Fletcher had been offered the sort of payrise Senesi is likely to get he'd be at the top of the spur road before they'd finished the sentence.

We have a wage cap. Say it’s about 70k a week and he can get 150k elsewhere. Thats 80k a week extra (4m a year) which over a 4 year contract length would be 16m

In a career that’s over for most by 35 then that’s the difference between a very comfortable life or a comfortable one.

As with all the fuss about Iraola leaving it always amazes me that some fans struggle to understand someone making a decision we would all make.

Who else would make the Iraola decision? It's bizarre as can be seen by the ludicrous justifications as to why he might leave AFCB for Palace that the people who have oddly gone into bat for him demonstrate.

I did already say I agree with all of that. I was adding something else to the discussion. Is a player's career just about money? Did he dream of becoming a footballer just for the money or the crowds' adulation? Success, playing at the highest level you can. Making an emotional connection to a club etc etc.

It's called someone having a different opinion to you. You can either embrace it or mock it I suppose ;)
