I'm still on board with what they are trying to do with this song, and it won't work instantly - I'm not sure it was ever expected to.
We've only had two run outs of the anthem that fans have "anticipated" - and I admit that, of all burners, this one is definitely a slow one. I know the song isn't to everyones taste, and I also understand the cadence of the song doesn't make it easy to sing either.
I have very little connection with people at AFCB, but it sounds like the song was run past Andoni and the players before they decided to go with it.
Where I was in the Ted Mac, it didn't drown out any singing - as there wasn't any, it was just clapping at the time. And being quite a distance away, I couldn't hear if the NS were singing, but looking back at footage, the lack of coordinated arm gestures suggests there wasn't any.
I know of course it's edgy to suggest there was, but video evidence suggests otherwise. Happy to be corrected.
Again though, the point remains that we have ability to "own" the ninety minutes by making it raucous, but we don't. It feels like we're overly focusing on the garnish while the meal goes cold.
That said, the bit that perhaps grated on me the most was the Freed from Desire at the end, when fans were wanting to chant Iraola's name - thankfully, the North Stand did make themselves heard, superseding the tannoy a fair bit.
To add to the comments from people who have made alternative suggestions, I was watching a pre-match routine from Hertha Berlin (I think), who play Rod Stewart's Sailing, which naturally leans in to the "We are Bournemouth, Super Bournemouth" song - which, with scarves aloft, and looked and sounded pretty good. But again, it's never going to win the Upbeat Song of the Year award.
That said, I'm not sure we can peddle the "No One's Heard of Us" bit with any authenticity anymore, because they most definitely have.
