Non - Boris Johnson

Interesting that no rival paper has gone with it either.
I wonder if there's an interim super-injunction in place so that the papers can't report the story or why they aren't allowed to report it.

Anyway it's all over twitter so any newspaper could get that quashed on Monday morning if they wanted to.

Or maybe it's because it's not what he said.
Reporters have a way with twisting things to cause headlines.
What I read from a Ukrainian news source was that the Ukrainian soldiers will have to be trained on how to use the arms supplied to Ukrainian army by the UK.

And so it goes.

A bad story comes out, their first thought is to lie about it.
Then they refuse to deny
Then they say it is true but that it's not a big deal.

Tonight we had the unedifying spectacle of no10 saying that they had pressured the times to remove the story and Carrie's spokespeople saying they hadn't

And so it goes on. As corrupt as can be imagined. They are relying on the “best of a bad bunch” to vote them in again and they’ll probably succeed.

Disastrous loss last night for the tories but it feels like this was a massive anti-boris vote and not a pro Labour or Lib Dem vote.

The opposition have some work to do.

Funniest thing of the night is Helen Hurford taking her bosses lead and turning up to the count and hiding in a room before refusing to make a speech then leaving without talking to reporters.

This should be on the good news thread. The better news is that Johnson is refusing to resign. He is an electoral liability and we need him to lead the Tories to a disastrous defeat.

We’ll, thank the lord for them. They are the ones most likely to get a bloody nose at the next election if their clown is still in charge.

I wouldn't celebrate just yet. Inflation will fall next year despite this clown being in charge. "getting inflation under control" will be added to the list of the things that 'Boris' "got done" just like brexit, the pandemic and all the other nonsense that he fucked up. It'll be enough to win over a load of people especially if they ramp up the culture war rhetoric.

Football coming home will also take the pressure off.

Boris Johnson will ultimately lose office due to pressures from being the guy that enabled Brexit .
That's basically what this is all about.
Only a matter of time before a cornered rat is conquered.
If there is any defence of him .. well he wasn't too much of a Lucky PM with Covid and Ukraine rocking up....but his downfall must surely be of his own making by his choice of Advisors and Cabinet..
..the Partygate stuff has been overplayed - that stuff is standard at No10….it's what they do..how they have behaved for years!
Obviously the Cost of Living Crisis hasn't been overplayed .
I actually think some of his Cabinet are worse than him . .namely Shapps and Patel. ..Sunak a smiling assassin?
BJ could hopefully be the very last PM to come out of Eton.. the place and it's Network is a wart on the Nation.
These fragmented observances are only translated to opinions of layman ilk and liable to be tweaked if necessary as things pan out.. so don't get too reactionary !

In both areas the Tory vote collapsed and the overall turnout dropped, suggesting Tory vote apathy. So whilst it's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the opposition right now, and it might be possible to bring those votes out in future, if they were to get nudged into voting elsewhere those swings would get all the larger.

They undertook the vote of no confidence too soon - if they had waited until after the by-elections I think he would be out.
I think this is a fair shout.

No that really isn't what this is about.

Any decent PM would have assembled a team of talented people that could have staved off the worst effects of Brexit and, who knows, maybe even found the odd benefit in there.

Instead, he has done as many narcissists do and brought in people who are too stupid to be able to challenge him.

Eventually, that catches up with people. You can't get people onside with a double thumbs-up, a Churchillian soundbite and a bit of boosterism for ever.

The most delicious irony will be if the tories take a leaf out of the johnson playbook and change the leadership challenge rules because they didn't like the result of the last vote.

Johnson has fiddled while Rome burned

Turnout in by-elections is almost always significantly lower than in General Elections.

That's true but the Tory vote tends to turn out much more than the other parties.

Whether it's pi55ing down, there's something good on telly or whatever, the blue rinse brigade always goes to the polls.
