but many tracks from others on "Best of ... "s and compilations. I'm cheap I know but do they count?

That has more to do with me rarely buying music in my younger days because there was no money available rather than not liking the albums listed. 40 years ago I would have been 12 years old and penniless. I think I started buying music from 1983 onwards, after I started my first paper round. I used that money to buy my first own stereo system and once that was paid for I was able to buy the odd album occasionally. My purchases have tended to be current albums since then so the older stuff only reached my ears via radio or in recent times via streaming services. So no album older than 38 years in my collection ( although I have many of the older songs on various compilations collected over the years ).
