Non - No Go List For Holidays Abroad

Avoided Florida as I have a son ;) the Space stuff would be OK.

rough plan is fly to NY, bus to Toronto to see my mate,
Fly to Vancouver, drive and do all the West Coast down to LA - then to Phoenix to see my old dearly departed mate's widow & family, then fly back from Phoenix.
That's a good trip. Toronto .... take it or leave it, it's becoming a mess but still lots to see/do, depending on time of year of course. 90 minutes to Niagara Falls if that's your thing.
If it's autumn, the train north from NYC to Toronto is spectacular as it follows the Hudson River. Fall colours are A-1.

As others mention, the west coast drive all the way down to San Diego is also spectacular

We went to Toronto for my mates wedding in 2001, so did Niagra and all that, CN Tower etc, loved it. Like Melbourne a very liveable city. It would be a pop in to say hello etc.

Yep San Diego could be another stop. Most expensive place to live in the US apparently on average? Surely parts of NY are more pricey?

San Diego is an interesting place, the waterfront area stretches miles, nearby Point Loma offers great views and walks around the Cabrillo Nat Monument. Lots of naval history in this massive naval base area. Love the airport, its one where you can literally walk a couple of hundred yards to a hotel near the waterfront. Good local buses as well. I am heading there next spring, just hoping the drug disaster known as Fentanyl has not hit the area as it has in many parts of California (and Vegas last time I was there). You can do a good road trip from there taking in places like Salton Sea, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Death Valley and finish in Vegas. Happy travels ! :)

A road trip from Vancouver south should include the area around Vancouver, a trip to Vancouver island for at least 3 or 4 days, Seattle, Mount St Helens, columbia river gorge and Portland. That would take about 2 weeks. A road trip from Vancouver down to Tijuana misses out so much. I've done it but would recommend Vamcouver to Portland and then a separate trip for San Fran down to San Diego or further.

If crossing the border from Canada to the US prepare for a wait. They are not used to processing Brits arriving by land. The ESTAs are for air arrival only.

I watch a vlogger on YT who lives just north of Woodstock he bought some land up in the mountains and built a castle out of containers. Andrew Camarata is his name.

Good trips. Loved the west coast of Vancouver Island, then get the ferry across to Washington State
I have always had good experiences crossing the border, criss crossed many times when I spent a year over there in an RV and on a seperate 6 month trip sleeping in a tent - although I did have a proper tourist visa due to the length of the trips. Having my dog with me often caused amusement amongst the guys at the border. Up in the Alaska, Yukon, BC areas the crossings were very straightforward except when a Canadian official got distracted by a black bear about 50 yards away at the Stewart/Hyder crossing !!
