Non - Pandemic

If you really want to know about the older pandemics, have a listen to BBC Sounds, Radiolab Series 7 Despatches from 1918.

There you will learn all about flu and how in 1968/69, when we had an epidemic/pandemic, we couldn't stay home from school/

Christchurch market had most of the stalls back today, plenty of people about. The George and the Ship looked "drinker ready" but the Arcado lounge looked shut. All other High street survivors appeared open, good to see so many people about. Salvation army guys, Big Issue seller, couple of homeless guys. Major downside was it looked like the record shop wasn't open. Biggest queues were outside the barbers shop : )

The roads from the North, Midlands and London into Devon, Cornwall and Somerset are heaving tonight..suitcases, surfboards and sh*theads ...standby for the 3rd wave... could be absolutely devastating for the South West.

B@stards.

'They think it's all over' and idiots are forming crowds all over the place. It could possibly be all over for the vulnerable relative they go home and infect. I can understand the 'excitement' of being let out but for goodness sake keep it within the rules! Some scientists are predicting a massive third wave with 50-60000 deaths, probably scaremongering, but do we want to take the risk?

How long do you suggest we should be kept away from one another for? Another month? Year? Decade?

All vulnerable people and over 50s have had the chance to be vaccinated. We're told it prevents pretty much 100% of serious illness. We need to get on with our lives now

In short yes we do want to take the risk.

Where are all these third wave deaths going to come from ? 62% of the population has had at least one jab, 15% have had 2 jabs. the number vaccinated is rising by approx half a million each day. All the vulnerable and over 50's have had at least one jab, most of the vulnerable have had 2 jabs. The vaccination virtually eliminates the risks of hospitalisation or death.
This is just more scientists scaremongering and a desire to control our freedoms.
We need to open up and open up now.

So the Kent variant that was 30-50% more deadly, it now turns out to be Zero % more deadly.
Remember the hysterics at the time by the scientists, the government and media.
More bollox to scare us.

Aren't these different variants? The recent one detected in Kent that originated in Nigeria is thought to be more deadly. The 'original' Kent one was always said to spread faster but they didn't think it was more deadly in my memory.

Hysterics by the media maybe. But the message was always pretty clear from the scientists and government. It was more contagious, so more people infected thus more deaths, but the strain itself wasn’t any more deadly.

It is the B1.1.7 variant that was detected early in the New Year. It is the same one as far as I can see.
