Non: Saudi Arabia World Cup 2034

Sorry but do not see the point in they trying as by then most of them will be living here
As much as I feel like it's doomed to fail, it does fall in line with their strategy.

If they want to be more than a zoo for retired players they'll need to look like a serious football nation, the infrastructure improvements and exposure gives them the chance to try.

Can't see how long it can possibly last.

A retirement fund for players past their peak, in front of 1200 fans.

And a global audience of none.

Sure they have the money to pay the charlatans who don't quite cut the mustard at the top level anymore.

But they were obviously hoping that the global viewing audience would shift to their reclaimed cities.

Hasn't happened and never will.

Arabian football can bring in some very top players at the end of their careers, but it won't shift the audience.

The Yanks seem to have found the middle ground with Beckham and Messi.

Football is more than money and celebrity.

The Arabian model has already failed.

I think the big difference between the MLS and Saudi League is that the MLS is trying to get the domestic audience and when you think the first purpose built football stadium is about 25 years old it really puts it in to perspective what they're doing. Football is now the third most watched sport behind grid iron and baseball.

The Saudis are trying to build a football tourist industry which just seems bonkers.

Back it up, back it up.

Not going to go all SDD on you, but.......

Football is the most watched sport in the world.

Not grid iron or baseball...that's a Yank thing.

Football is the most watched sport globally.

Could've been clearer there.
I mean football has risen to third in the states. Obviously, you're correct globally it's number one.

I may also have confused baseball with basketball or different metrics have them alternating at 2nd and 4th.

Luckily for us Bournemouth boys.....

English PL football is the most watched sport in the world.

What a privilege it is.....for those that can attend, and those that support vehemently.

A bigger stadium is a must, but it's a difficult conundrum for any owner.

Stay competitive with player acquisitions or pay for a new stadium.

It’s also not an over night thing, it’s all been happening since they were awarded the 1994 World Cup.

The MLS is still a bit of a retirement or “fast buck” league, it’s a clever move for any third tier player in England as we’ve seen with Wright-Phillips in the past.

The Saudi league is just bonkers.

I know the rules (and my understanding of them) change a lot but I thought that building a stadium is outside of FFP so it's just whether the ownership are happy to spend the money?

Yes I think this is right. Bill says we'll get a new stadium, so rest assured - we'll get a new stadium.

Probably have to establish us as a PL team, unlikely to be relegated to inject the long term 'dead cash' that is a stadia.

Foley hasn't been in for long, and probably had a massive scare last season when we started off without a win in 9.

L,Orient just got relegated......brand new investment in NZ to START a new team.

Buying a new team goes against what football is however. MK Don's shows how people think with regard.

Foley has gone hard into football, and at this moment we are his main aim and have been successful.

He's looking at losses all over his other clubs at this stage.

Stadium investment is desperately required, but it takes years and years to see ROI.

Saudis are building to try and get their teams in the Champions league eventually.

Need to look serious first.

Sounds fanciful, but money talks.

So that's, like, the UEFA Champions League? I know Eurovision now apparently includes Australia but calling Saudi Arabia part of Europe is a bit of a stretch!

We've seen in the past how no matter how much money you throw at it, you can't rip the EPL from the UK.

China tried...failed.

Saudi are trying....will fail.

The only model I have respect for is Beckham, using his celebrity, to bring it to the Yanks.

Beckham model is making him money, and increasing the spectacle in the USA.

Also they would need to meet the UEFA FFP requirements for Champions League and paying literally billions on players with average of 10k attendances and no TV money would make that impossible.

It's also no secret that most of the problem clubs currently skirting the rules are under Middle Eastern ownership so I can see many European clubs having a real issue with it.

Plus...... the wags can't comfortably get their tits out for public selfies, like they can in the UK
