Non-Wildlife

There’s a brilliant app called Merlin that identifies bird calls.

Thanks fritter, that app was a great addition to my morning walk in the forest, even if I did upset my old dog a bit by keep stopping to use it!

Saddened to read this. I can remember as a boy catching them off the pier with just a piece of foil on a hook.

Also when there are many calls together. Distinguishing the blackbird from the blackcap when they were both singing was great.

Also on Thursday I finally saw the Sea Eagles at Stanpit. Been several times and missed them. This time was perfect. 2 of them sat out on the bank. They apparently can just sit there for a long time. Then they took off pursued by a raggle taggle bag of gull followers.
Was this at any particular tide?

Only a warden told us the best time to see them is at low tide.

Did you see them on the marsh or Fisherman’s Bank?

Beavers have been filmed by a member of the public as they swam around in a nature reserve for the first time.

The pair were spotted by "amazed" local resident Tony Thompson on 1 May at Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve, near Ringwood.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust said it was "delighted" to confirm it is the first sighting of beavers in the area.

There's a bunch of young weasels at Stanpit also. Although I've not seen them yet.
Yes- I've heard about these too - apparently a pair of weasels have made a home at the Southern end of the "hill" on the marsh ( the bit that rises about 3 feet above the marsh). I'm just returning from a trip to the Norwegian fjords- not much sea-borne wildlife there as the fjords are so deep there's nothing for things like orcas or sea eagles to feed on, plenty of eider ducks in the shallower harbours though, and was lucky enough to see Sea Otters near Haugesund.

Interested that Third World Man picked up a Blue Throat near Stapehill. These are very rare visitors from the continent but before leaving the UK there was a male that had settled near Wareham (Swineham Point)- not sure if he's still there but I was lucky to get this photo of him before we left.

Hi.
It was the birdsong that made me check as it was different to the normal song around here. I did have a second, but not certain recording a few days ago but not heard it since.
