Non: World Cup 2026 USA Canada Mexico

I see the Brazilian referee who sent off 3 players in the opening game in Mexico, has sent off 11 players including yesterday in the 29 games he has been in charge in the 2025-26 season, 4 in a game in October.

As I imagine I won't be the only one not staying up 'til 2am to watch the likes of Haiti v Scotland or recording 3 hours of Sweden v Tunisia I assumed there would be the usual highlight shows but I can't see any on the epg. Is that right?

Ever wanted to see a World Cup match from every angle? How about a full-pitch tactical view? Or even see the match through the eyes of a player?

Well, now you can with the brand-new Fifa World Cup 3D Experience.
This is a UK-first that is only available on BBC Sport, starting with Friday's game between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina at 20:00 BST.

The interactive game experience gives viewers more choice to explore the match both in real-time, highlights and full-match replays.

It's three decades since Frank Skinner, David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds famously sang that football was "coming home" at Euro 96.

Now, after another "30 years of hurt" have passed without a major trophy for the men's national team, Three Lions is being re-released again, in time for the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

But not everyone is happy about the song being belted out at England games for another tournament.

Yawn.

Blimey, there’s a whole lot of people out there taking it far more seriously than they should… of course they’re going to release it again.

If you had a money tree at the bottom of the garden you’d use it…

Some of the money back then went to a good charity, so if this is still the case in 2026, keep it going.

Has a football song ever better encapsulated all the range of emotions football fans experience? Pain, hope, disappointment and possibility. This is a song for football Fans, by football fans and 25 years on, Three Lions is still THE football anthem. Here’s why….For the 25th anniversary three Lions re-release, Sony Music have partnered up with Teenage Cancer Trust and donated 50% of all Vinyl sales to the Charity.

That last sending off was hilarious. I was in a pub in Liverpool and the whole place burst out laughing on the replay.

tbh I thought the second one was more dubious.

On first viewing of the last sending off, I thought it was a yellow card only. However, on the replays, there weren't any other defenders nearby and, without the foul, the striker would have got a shot in from inside the box, so justifiable as a DOGSO. Not a clear and obvious error to overturn on VAR either.

yup - i agree. Would have had a chance of a shot on goal. Defender had no intention/chance of getting ball - the perfect use of the GOGSO rule I think.

Interesting graphic…

It came to my attention recently that AI models are pretty good at scanning an image and extracting textual information. So here's that information for the quantitatively-minded:

It looks like Group L (or maybe Group I) is the best-ranked, and Group B is the worst-ranked*. But I did a couple of statistical tests on Ranks by Group and those do not suggest that any of the groups are measurably different from the others.

* Remember, better teams presumably have lower numerical ranks.
