Our Rivals Signings

Bill missing the Brooks signing there, obviously!
I was thinking about the amount of players being signed by others like Brighton compared to our just two...and Brookes the only one from the Championship.
Perhaps we have scoured the lower leagues... but something is wrong with the way we try to close deals?

That would then still depend on whether those players are good enough I guess. Some of the players signed by other teams are unknown qualities really, some will work, some wont, just like with any team.
Our lower league players were with us in the lower leagues remember, they progressed with us, it may not be quite so simple these days to pluck a League One player and put them in the team. I am sure Eddie and his staff are always looking though.

Cardiff have signed four championship players for a total of about £27.5m, and they are being tipped everywhere to go down because they haven't signed quality.

If you're looking in the lower leagues below the championship you're likely to find only people of the quality of Simpson, who many think should be loaned out as he's not yet ready for the first team. You're very unlikely to get a prem-ready player out of league 1

See your point and that's the standard way of viewing it...but even the bookies are way out sometimes ..it's about other things than perceived quality i.e. teamwork, dressing room spirit, captains and Managers gelling it all together.
We will get an indication of the Cardiff players quality soon.

Burnley signed Wood( 10 goals) from Little Leeds!

We were tipped to go down with 'L1 quality ' players three years ago!

There are quite a few expensive flops in an average season in the PL that come from Top Foreign Leagues.
If Brookes, L.Cook, Hyndman and our next midfield signing from the Championship form a creative force that keeps us in a top ten I think that will change a few views.

Agree about the tipping three years ago, but our League 1 players weren't going straight into the Prem. They'd won L1 and then had two tough seasons in the Championship, not only getting physically and mentally stronger (as well as better footballers) but also working with a coach who had been growing with them and inspiring them.

You can't buy that

There’s no definitive answer as to how many professional footballers there are in the world but this link puts its somewhere between 56k and 113k. England has 4K, with est. 1k of those already in the premier league (less teams but bigger squads).

The people responsible for running our club get accused of all kinds of professional ineptitude. if we were to limit our player searches to England that label could be justified for once

Seems Brighton are following in our footsteps and possibly signing a player from Sheffield United.

Brighton are interested in Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell, Sky Sports News has learned, and are prepared to pay £6m for him, as the Premier League club’s pursuit of Liam Moore has stalled.

We told you earlier this week that Moore had handed in a transfer request to try to force through his move to Brighton, but Reading are at this stage holding firm.

Chris Hughton wants a centre-back to add to his defensive options, and has now turned to O’Connell, who was a key player for Sheffield Utd last season, appearing in all 46 Championship matches.

Update.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has this morning confirmed he has spoken to Brighton manager Chris Hughton and told him defender Jack O’Connell is not for sale.

In relation to the sale of David Brooks - who left for Bournemouth earlier this summer, he said: “The two situations are completely different and Jack will be involved this weekend.”

BREAKING NEWS

Sky Sources: Burnley have placed an improved bid for defender Ben Gibson - after Middlesbrough rejected their initial £12m offer.
We understand the second bid is for £13m.

Seems that’s the way this season, read last para in story below.

DYCHE FINDING MARKET DIFFICULT

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is still hoping to make progress in the transfer market in the coming days but admits he has found it difficult to finalise deals this summer.

"We're in the market for lots of different people in different positions," he said. "Whatever you think of the market, it is very difficult. But we keep working diligently and working hard.

"Even when you put good money to people, everyone wants more, more, more."

One player who might miss our friendlyif this goes through.

WEST HAM 'LOOK AT SANABRIA'

West Ham could be about to add to their summer of big spending with a move for Real Betis striker Antonio Sanabria, according to AS.

The 22-year-old former Barcelona academy standout scored eight goals in 17 appearances last season.

Think this is there first signing.

Former England International keeper for £3.5 million.

Also they have an England International in goal now.

Joe Hart has left Manchester City to join Burnley on an initial two-year deal.

The England international has brought a trophy-laden 12-year spell at City to an end by agreeing to move to Burnley in a deal worth around £3.5m.

Burnley have an option to his extend Hart’s contract by a further year.
The signing is a timely addition to Sean Dyche’s squad, with goalkeepers Nick Pope and Tom Heaton injured with less than three days to go until the start of the Premier League.
