Supporters in the Premier League look set to face another summer of price rises, as seven clubs announce their pricing plans for 2026-27.

Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley, Leeds United, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Sunderland have all announced that prices will be going up next season, drawing anger from some supporter groups.

Those increases range from small above-inflation rises of around the 3-5% mark, all the way up to 15-20% depending on the club and seat.

Burnley and Leeds seem to be a little bit presumptuous that their 'premier league' prices are going up :)

Have you seen the price of milk and food and they are complaining of a £1.50 rise. How much does a pint cost up there?

Always find it interesting that other clubs fan bases protest over various things such as ticket prices. But we often just shrug our shoulders or complain a lot on social media and do little else.

I think the fact that most of us would be delighted if our increases were limited in such a way, shows how moderate that feels in comparison to recent years.

It was discussed that inflation is 3% and the FAB collectively said they would not be able to support an increase larger than 3% following three successive years of higher increases.

JF said that the club are tracking metrics such as cost of living and inflation and these do factor into decision making, however, the club wouldn’t necessarily align with inflation as a sole factor, but as a consideration.

I know that a lot of people on here think that supporters should just be quiet and hand over their cash without expecting the club and/or manager to go out of their way to give any assurances about the future... but I think there's no justification for an increase this time around for three reasons...

1. They've sold most of our best players in the last 12 months for big profits. Sure they've bought some good prospects but it can't be said that we got better value for money this season compared to last* subject to going on a massive winning streak and qualifying for Europe.

2. Sure they've made progress on the ground but they've moved loads of us against our will. Personally I've accepted that as a price we've got to pay for progress on the stadium but I don't think we should pay twice, I.e. by having price hikes adding insult to injury.

3. They've not clarified who is going to be managing the side next season so we can't really be sure what we are going to get. Are they going to ask for 10% more whilst this is still up in the air?* subject to announcing a three year Iraola extension prior to the price confirmation.

I say all of this as someone who argued that increases in the last couple of years were fair enough.

Personally I don’t see the need to keep squeezing the fan base, when the amounts discussed are so small (all tickets £6.7m) in consideration to other things the club earns money from (£148m from tv) and where there is what is primarily unnecessary expenditure (player agents for one example- if they’re working for the player, get the player to pay them :) )

Back of beer mat maths time and could be riddled with errors so apologies in advance…

“GA” is roughly 40% of ticket revenue so £2.68million based on the accounts.

What kind of percentage rise is needed to actually generate a sizeable amount of income that’s worth annoying the match going fan for?

The figures just simply aren’t and never will be enough to make an impression on FFP, PSR, SCR or whatever cap comes around the corner.

Hospitality however can make a bit more.

£4.02m last year. Based on roughly 670 hospitality spaces? Nearly double that next season to 1,270 and add a conservative 3% price hike (considering the product has improved, better seats, renovated hospitality rooms etc) hospitality makes £8.8m.

I personally don't subscribe to this way of thinking. If we're seeing investment, great players and management and a team performing well then it's fair enough if priced rise with inflation irrespective of what other revenues they are making.

As I've said though I really don't think there's any justification for increases this time around.

I think to myself every season, what’s my cut off point. I don’t have a grand sat in my account doing nothing - it’s always a debate. Inevitably I pay it as I’ll regret in later down the line. But with 20k tickets to shift each week soon, maybe that decision might be different and I’ll do a dozen games a season or whatever.

And I’m pragmatic enough that just because I personally don’t see the need, I can still understand the rationale behind it.

But, price wise with inflation of 3%, that would see an increase from GA of £80k pa… to the P&L… is that amount really worth annoying the fan base over?

The other revenues and expenses is the context of what that figure means to the club.

£80k for me would make a huge difference to me, I could get new seats for the Sunseeker and may be find a better port in Monaco for a few months.

The club could cover a day and bit of the payments to player agents that they made last year.

The short answer is probably yes. An investment with returns secured against inflation is worth more than one with falling revenue in real terms. I don't think non matchday revenue will form any part of the returns the investors in the redevelopment will get.

There wouldn’t be falling revenue though as “Ticketing” will have a large % rise through the trade off and increase from hospitality. :)

Under Max we had a seven year freeze on ticket prices and, during that time, zero progress on buying back and expanding the ground.

Upping the matchday income has been key to unlocking the investment for growing the club by expanding the ground. You don’t get a 15% return in investment and a seven year payback period any other way.
