Profit & Sustainability Rules

Meanwhile 115 charges go unanswered. The haves continue to be the haves and reinforce the glass ceiling.
To be fair there will still be loads of opportunities to break the rules as no-football events held at stadiums count towards the revenue.

"Emirates Events" could pay Man City £500M to host the Qatari tiddly winks finals for example and it would all be above board.

Agree the whole thing feels hollow and meaningless with that elephant in the room.

That’s going to completely knacker us.
It makes the path ahead clear for clubs like us though, no choice but to maximise income (stadium expansion). Maximise player development (training ground + coaching quality). And become as efficient as possible at recruitment (recruitment dept and minimising dud signings).

I'd like to think there is and will always be room for a smaller more flexible fish to out-maneuver some of the lumbering fat beasts with big expectations that spend so much on fees, wages, pay-outs on sackings etc. Though to quote - "We don't want too many Leicester Citys".

It’s their way of getting the ‘giants’ of football back in the top tier. It started with squeezing smaller clubs out of cup competitions, and now we’re witnessing this.

Sky go along with it of course.
Unfortunately, at least 14 clubs always seem happy to vote yes.

On the other side, we’ve all seen what can happen when clubs spend multiples of their revenue.
True but the game has always been built on teams being able to use a benefactor to help them against the giants. Blackburn’s story or Leicesters story would now be near impossible so we can look forward to a lifetime of wondering where Liverpool, Arsenal or Man City finish in the top three.

Also, when you look at the inflation of player prices in recent times ( will you be able to get anybody half-decent from anywhere in Europe for under €20m in the coming years ? ), we could easily end up in a situation where we simply cannot compete in the PL without breaking PSR, unless we somehow start developing our own world class players, which seems unlikely.

The sooner the big six and the deluded rest sod off and start their Super League the better. Let the Premier League be a league where all teams are given an equal opportunity to be competitive and where any team can have a special season and get to experience being champions of the top league in English football.

That’s very true. Player inflation has outstripped other inflation considerably. When you think of Dango at 44m, Sesko at 75m and kirksee at 38m it’s incredible how little you get for a lot of cash these days. Our revenue is £180m before any player sales.

It is a worry, especially when PSR starts tightening up and imposing hard limits.
If the big PL clubs can still afford to spend big, it's hard to see there being much downward pressure on player prices, so clubs like ours could easily end up in a situation where we are struggling to get a decent squad together without breaking PSR.

I think it's a real shame that the clubs rejected the salary cap idea, or the "top to bottom anchoring " that was voted on but rejected last November. That would've limited clubs' spending power to 5 times broadcast money plus 5 times league prize money. It would've meant clubs like us, Palace, Brentford etc really could compete on something like a level playing field. And that would include those pesky clubs promoted from the Championship instead of seeing them hurtling back down after a few months in the sun
Of course the bigger sides didn't like it because it would threaten their entitlement, and nor did the PFA (what- limit our ability to earn an extra £20M a year- how dare you!). Sky go along with the Manuarsepoolenhamcity consortium because it serves the only thing they really want- more subscriptions around the world. C'est la vie I'm ashamed to say.
