I actually think we were in for Butland but only in exchange for Begovic going back to Stoke. Presumably Begovic didn’t want to drop a division so the deal never happened.
I doubt anyone sees the Azerbaijan top flight as a step above the Championship.

My guess would be a financial one over a footballing one.

It has to be doesn’t it. Stadium looked half empty last photo I saw. Way of life, culture, language etc completely different, must be a bit of money knocking around as an incentive

How many actually play
Scarily very few. An oldie like Foster. Heaton at Villa. Gunn or McArthy at St Mary’s ...all would make you very nervous which is why Pickford- the ultimate cat on hot bricks - is currently a certain pick.

We are a long way from the embarrassment of riches when Shilton and Clemence used to take it in turns, then along came David Seaman.

So if Ramsdale stays grounded, works on his game and carries on the way he has started he could have a great future ahead of him.

Looking at the names mentioned above rambo would have a chance going forward.must be the poorest group of english keepers ever.

Im sorry but riches Clemence and Shilton!! We have Pickford, Heaton, Pope, Gunn, Henderson then Foster (who has retired, due to being a family man.) Then Freddie woodman on loan at Swansea, keeping clean sheets for fun! Oh then Rammers, thats 7 English goalies and Ramsdale.Get the facts right, we have an abundance of goalies, long may it continue.

None of the current crop of English keepers are anywhere near the quality of Shillton and Clemence, pretty much every keeper in the league was English back then so no we don’t have an abundance compared to that era particularly.

Shilton won 125 England caps, and Clemence 61 - 186 between them.
How many in total have the 8 on your list won?

Clemence 24yrs old debut for england, Shilton 21yrs old debut for england.
Shilton 125 caps and Clemence 61 (only because he retired early). 186 caps AT THE END OF THEIR CAREERS!!!!!!!!!! GOD SAKE. At least compare like for like! At the same age or is that too difficult.

Also, a different game back then. Current keepers need to be confident with the ball at both feet.

Was a little worried at first wih Rambo's tendency to palm the ball away rather than catch it. However he seems to always force the ball out of danger as it appears he has plenty of arm strength.
Has looked comfortable since the start, we are very lucky to have him!

I defer to your opinions but anyone from the Shilton / Clemence and then Seaman era will know where I am coming from.
