Resilience

When things are against you, you're trailing or battling to get a foothold in the match it's vital a team shows resilience.

2-0 down at half time it would be easy for heads to drop. With last Saturday fresh in the memory and a dick of a manager telling them they weren't good enough to compete at this level a lot of teams would have folded.

The tactical change at half time was surprising but credit to O'Neill, he spotted something and we were absolutely all over them after that.

I moaned at half time about the right side offering nothing going forwards but Fredericks had them on toast in that second period. He looks a very decent addition in his showing so far. The left also got back into the action as well after a slightly slower start to the period.

Crisp passing, men showing for the ball, runners and... belief.

A brilliant three points. The first half was a worry as it looked a little similar to Wolves, strong defensively but nothing in attack. The second half kept the former but completely turned around the latter.

We'll need a lot more resilience before the season is out. Now they know they've got it, I hope they keep showing it.

I'll hold my hands up. I wasn't sure about Fredericks as a signing but after that, who am I to say... he was superb. Personally a lot of credit has to go to our management team after revitalising this group of lads after Scott Parkers stupid comments after Liverpool.

He looks the biggest idiot of all after this

Tavernier and fredericks as wing backs are huge upgrades on smith and JZ

I never got why so many people criticised the fredericks signing..thought he was a decent free signing. Clear he found pre season tough so think management team should have protected him better to avoid strains.

People criticised the Fredericks signing because history strongly suggests that he will struggle to remain fit. Let’s see if he gets a run of games first before we start labelling him a success. He was good today for sure, but he’s not a lot of good to us if he can’t remain fit.

People criticised the Gosling signing, because history strongly suggested he'd struggle to stay fit.

“People” = you

I would be all for 5 at the back if both the wing backs attack like second half.

We looked a different team with Frederick's bombing down the right.
This for me too. Wing backs work when you have proper wing backs. Who knew? Fredericks seems very suited to it and perhaps Tav can get better at the role in time. There were certainly signs yesterday.
In any case, it’s a great option to have, should we need it.

Agree with Fred over Smith, but surely there’s a wing back in JZ? His delivery needs to improve but he certainly has the engine and the go forward mentality.
Anyway, things looking much rosier for our much maligned 3 at the back formation – which is no bad thing.

 not that I necessarily thought this, but recall some saying last year this team weren;t the most likeable amongst us fans, no doubt no small part of that down to Parkers tactics - sort of effective of course, as can;t forget we were promoted of course, but yesterday felt real connection with players again. breath of fresh air.

Agree, it’s strange.

I have said a few times that the wingback role should suit JZ but he has failed to seize the chance. Seems his best form is in a back four with Anthony as a partner.
