The Countdown to Game 38

I’d forget champions league now and concentrate on either Europa or conference. Either of which Bournemouth fans would have bitten your hand off for at the start of the season. Fully expect a crap fa cup final where Chelsea snatch an 89th minute winner from a deflected shot.
I'm not sure what you mean by "concentrate". We have no choice but to accept the results no matter how they fall. Fingers crossed that we qualify for Europe may be better in this scenario, and the chips will fall for whatever competition we may end up in.

I just mean that hoping for a champions league spot is unrealistic at this point. If it happens, great but wouldn’t get worked up about it.

"There are significant squad bonuses on the line for the higher Leeds can finish. In 17th or 16th, a bonus of £2.5million would be shared equally. In 15th, the players will receive £3m, and in 14th, this rises to £3.5m."

Come on chaps. Those summer WAG shopping trips aren't going to fund themselves. Best beat Brighton tomorrow so you can afford them.

Brentford v Palace
Everton v Sunderland
Leeds v Brighton

All 3pm kick offs today. All potentially crucial for us. Which one are you watching?

Think I might give Leeds a go, to start with at least.

Going to watch whichever they deliver on Goal Rush, good way to keep up with all three very significant games.

I guess we want Jaidon to do us a favour tonight and help Burnley take points off Arsenal.

Then, after we beat Man City tomorrow, they'll still have something to play for against Villa come Sunday.

Oh well, it wasn't to be.

Still, tomorrow night Dean Court could be the venue where the Premier League title is decided on the back of AFCB getting a result. Incredible stuff.

The matches that matter have shrunk...

Villa v Freiburg
Need a Villa win tonight to keep the most likely win to the CL open.

Brighton v Man Utd
Need a Man Utd team with nothing to play for and with most of their team wanting to avoid injuries before the World Cup to still somehow do us a favour. If they take anything from the match, we're guaranteed sixth.

Liverpool v Brentford
Salah's final farewell at Anfield so the crowd will be hyped. After yesterday's results and because Sunderland and Chelsea play each other, Brentford can now only qualify for Europe with a win. A draw will mean they definitely miss out, and that helps us as it means they'll be throwing the keeper up if scores are level late on. If they do win, we want them to win big as part of a large goal difference swing in our favour. If they lose, we need Villa to have won that final. A draw and that dream is over for us. For this season.

Man City v Villa
If we want to go through the Villa winning the Europa League route, then as well as Liverpool winning, Villa have to lose this one.

Forest v AFCB
First order of business, a point guarantees us sixth and that has to be aim number one. However, there is a situation where we go madly chasing goals in all-out-attack mode. If Brentford are beating Liverpool by a couple, Brighton are losing so not a threat then we may as well try and get a big win to try and overhaul Liverpool's goal difference advantage. If it backfires and we end up losing, so be it. However, if sixth place is at threat because Brighton are leading I don't think we'll go kamikaze.

I thought that the Man City v Villa is important too.

If Villa on Thursday, lose to City on Sunday, Liverpool beat Brentford and we get at least a point, we would be in the Champions League.

Or have I got that wrong?

True, Man City also need to beat Villa for the Europea League method to work.

Edited the above post to include that.

It likely being Guardiola's last game I imagine Man City beating Villa is very likely to be honest. Brentford spoiling the party at Anfield is a slightly bigger concern, but they are in torrid form. It could well all fall into place for us.

Almost. The Europa final is tonight. Provided Villa win that AND finish 5th, whoever takes 6th place in the PL acquires the extra Champions League place awarded to the 5th placed team in the PL, because that team (Aston Villa) would have already qualified via another route.

I just love the scenario that if Liverpool lose 1-0 and we win 5-0 then us and Liverpool will have absolutely identical records inc head to head games. What would happen then - a play off for 5th place ?
Alphabetical order

I keep reading in different threads that no matter what, we get Europa at the very least.
Including us losing to Forest and Brighton winning. Is that correct?
As it happens I think the most likely is Villa winning the cup then losing to City, with Liverpool beating Brentford on Mo’s farewell.
So Champions League it is.

Yes Europa league as we can't end lower than 7th.
If Brighton win and we lose they will overtake us on GD. I'm going for the highest points total ever in the EPL and 18 games undefeated.
