The Golf Thread

What a lovely par 3.
We have started playing indoors once a week now until February's trip to Portugal.
Plays around 150 from the middle tees. All carry. Really nice (but difficult) course just outside of Hamilton - Heron Point.

Still outdoors for another two/three weeks. Range closes today.

Isn't golf a funny sport, played yesterday had a shocking round couldn't hit the ball, absolute nightmare very depressing, played today birdied the first a par 5 out of the trees and never looked back and won, I suppose the moral is keep going who knows what the future holds.

Not a mainstream headline but a big day for a lovely guy and bloody good player who’d slipped down the rankings. Some way to get your tour card back at the end of six Q-school rounds. He’s on the excellent Chipping Forecast podcast every week with a fascinating and honest insight into the ups and very big downs of a professional golfer. Well done Eddie Pepperell.

The reality of professional sport has always been my fascination - the inside track if you like, the human side and this is as good as it gets - very real and very candid. On this occasion, almost out of nowhere, he found his game, even himself, when he needed it most. Compelling stuff.

Or just search for the Chipping Forecast.

European Tour is in Kenya this week playing at my old club Karen CC just outside Nairobi. Two par 5s are now par 4s for the pro's. Tight tree lined fairways and small greens.

Rory trying to win back to back Masters.

Only three golfers have managed to win The Masters in back-to-back years.
  • Jack Nicklaus 1965, 1966.
  • Nick Faldo 1989 1990.
  • Tiger Woods 2001, 2002.
