Tyler Adams

Injury or Man Utd link.

First things that come to mind when a Tyler Adam's post is up top
And
@Neil Dawson talking about him being our 5th choice midfielder when everyone's fit, apart from a few games a season (against elite clubs).and how we should be in the market for a modern, young, athletic 6 ft4 defensive midfielder who can also score from in and around the box at least 10 times a year.

Sounds a bit like most womens tinder profile ;)

You dont think we’d be better off with a taller defensive midfielder who is great at defending corners and can pass the ball forwards?

Too tall for me.

I'm not sure if it's a bit of a myth that Adams doesn't pass forward but perhaps Matt can dig out those statistics. He may have done it before, but I can't remember.

You don't think if there was a taller defensive midfielder who is great at defending corners and can pass the ball forwards available in our price range we'd have signed him?

We can’t really can we… we have one on big wages who is smaller, doesn’t defend corners and doesn’t pass the ball forwards. PSR and all that….

Absolutely, I do agree with that guv.

Pinto can add that profile to our shortlist. It perfectly compliments the wishlist I sent him last summer:

We're looking to identify a player in each position thst posses the following qualities:

Gk - core gk attributes of Courtois, sweeper keeper skills of neuer and the free kick/penalty threat of Chilavert, mental instability of Jens lehmann and funny confrontations/entertainment value

Full back- free kick threat of robbie Carlos. Rock solid qualities - The Paldini. Relentkess Attacking wing back marcelo, cafu and Dango.

Cb - 2 players who both offer set piece goal threat , leadership of Sergio ramos and hierro, leadership and reading of game like Baresi, legendary vision, composure and sweeper skills of the kaiser, sheer pace of van der ven and of course it goes without saying, the free kick conversion rate of Ronald koeman

Cdm/cm - taller defensive midfielder who is great at defending corners and can pass the ball forwards, including 2 players who are similar height to crouch, unstoppable dribbling, creativity to Zidane, play making skills of modric abd defensive qualities of makele...rooney direct, relentless forward drive/motion and goal threat...and playerscapable of a goal return similar to Robert Lewondowski.

Wingers - set piece of ability Beckham
, direct pace on the ball as robben, everything messi and cr7 bring, unquestionable selfless team spirit/togetherness like the small scottish bloke and a right winger with a bigger penis than dango,

Amc Maradona, bergkamp,... of course goes with out saying we'll be seeking out a player with the quite unique skillset of being the last classic 10, who also possess the world class officiating ability of Colina, meaning he's been officially appointed to referee every game hes also playing in for years - Bruno Fernanj .

Strikers - hybrid of van basten, Mueller, pele, henry r9 and Josh mcquoid - not seen anyone else come close to their performances over 3 or 4 games on the trot

Unfortunately with Max Aarons' wages to cover we can't afford any of them.

Lucky I saw this! This is probably the best I have, but it doesn't show the direction of the pass. Quite impressive the percentage that are competed (and that approaching half are in the opponent's (from eyeballing). Even if he is just passing to someone more creative that is still useful.

I decided to add Elliot Anderson to get a sense check against another CDM. Minutes per chance created is 145 Adams and 138 Anderson (and City will probably be creating more chances than us plus Anderson has taken 9 corners)

I like Adams so may be biased in my selection of stats but I've tried not to be. All from FantasyFootballScout

Many thanks Matt. Even though it doesn’t necessarily clarify certainty it’s helpful, at least in my mind anyway, that this myth exists that Adams doesn’t do forward passes.

We'd be better off with Alex Scott as our no.6....don't care how tall he is.
Not robust, aggressive enough defensively to play there frequently, except when Adams, maybe Cook isnt free - depending if Christie is chosen. Pllus you're asking him to play a more disciplined defensive role, which neuters his best qualities, contributions.

Absolute rubbish. ..Scott wins more ground duals than any of our midfielder in fact his defensive stats are up there with any midfielder ....we went away to Arsenal with Scott and Christie in midfield ....both of them were superb...Scott also played there tonight for England..the days of the traditional defensive midfielder are gone....any no.6 has to be able to take the ball off the Cbs and play whilst also being press resistant....

Yes exactly - which is why its a load of b0ll0cks that Adams is a limited defensive midfielder. He is absolutely a defensive midfielder though, and teams play with different roles in each position. Its not as simple as every number 6 in every team is asked to do the same job.

Just because the technical requirement and intelligence in position has increased for a CDM compared to 15 years ago, doesnt mean you can play there effectively without posses high aggression, bravery - but now you need to be able to play football too, and not just bully/harrass others.

England generally play Rice, who has spent most his career as a defensive mid, but has become box to box in recent years. A little like how Bellingham played most his career as an 8, but last couple of years as a 10.

They're both world class, complete midfielders, and therefore role and responsibility of 6, 8 etc is differen and much more fluid - because we have 2 world class complete midfielders, who'd pretty much get in any starting 11 in the end.

Rice is much more accomplished and better player at CDM and CM than all our players. Us coming out on top against them, doesnt mean our players are objectively better, and can guarentee arsenal wouldnt swap their midfield for ours, regardless what happened last season.
