Hi Al,

I'm a newcomer to the board, but have seen you post on the parlous state of the finances. For me, and other newcomers, can you give a summary of what you believe to be the situation? Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt.
I think the best thing to do is wait till the accounts are out, very soon, and watch the blue touch paper be ignited by people claiming , "we sold Ake, Wilson," etc. And generally trying to balance a bad set of accounts by putting pluses in the wrong years column.

You have had 11 years of me mocking the accounts.
Who said we broke FFP?
Spotted it right away.
However, move on.
Await the news and debate among yourselves.
I shall just snigger at the ignorance.....again

I'll take that as a no then?
rather than moaning, and, per my suggestion, grow a pair and do something about it

I've tried to defend Cook and Smith because they're the last 2 from the promotion but they've declined so badly and if Cook thinks today was acceptable then he's as deluded as all the newer paycheck players we have left in the squad. What is clear is Ake made him look alot more solid than he is because next to CCV who I don't think is good tbh he looks Middle of the road Championship at best.
I used to say even when we were in the PL and lost 4-0 to a big team that it would've been 8 or 9 without Ake and I think I'm right in saying that, we will never have the class and ilk of all round CB of Ake ever again.

Hi Matt, if we sell £50m worth of the dross that don't want to be here and think they're better than they are in the Summer then we live to fight another year if you include the 20m parachute payment presuming we dont go up which is likely as the annual wages will reduce furthert aswell, we will live to fight another year, I think this figure is likely to be received if you include Brooks, Danjuma, Billing and Lerma but the corruption on the board is the money that's killing us every year, their salaries, their incompetence and their lack of any progress in developing the club and letting Eddie go, Only by removing the top fat cats can you remove the dictator but many people seem to avoid this conflict unless they're lives are at stake.

Al trying to get his counter arguments in early.

Does anyone know when the Cherries Trust are due to publish the feedback from their recent meet with the board and others...? Seems to be some time since the meeting and nothing of yet...

I know it’s slightly off-topic but ‘maybe’ there were one or two probing questions about the club’s current situation about players, infrastructure and financial stability...

Currently I feel that at the end of the season at least 3 of Lerma, Danjuma, Billing, Rico and Begovich will go, probably abroad. Brooks and L Cook might go in January after proving their fitness. The rest are Championship players and will stay unless a club with a chance of promotion decides to take a chance. Whoever the new manager is will be told he won't get much transfer budget because the players were bought as an investment and they need a return on that now.
Shame because I think the growth of the town and its younger demographic means the club has real potential, but appointing JW makes it look like, without EH, Demin has fallen out of love with the club and maybe the players think that too.
Very much agree with the point on Demin. As an experienced investor in other commodities he’s been learning the hard way that football is up there with Bitcoin as a reliable way to make money. He may be asking - how does he make a return now? Perhaps flog the few decent players we have left at the end of this failed season and then put the club up for sale - see what he can get. From his perspective it’s going to take a lot of money to push us back to the PL, even assuming he can find the right manager. Expensive and daunting for any investor.

This was by far the easiest ever championship to get promoted in. As Mr H said pre season the order would be us then Norwich then Watford. I think most fans agreed that JT was NEVER the man to coach and motivate this squad. King Eddie struggled (as he couldn’t/wouldn’t share the workload) towards the end.
let’s be honest. Pro footballers are 13 year old school kids who all live in their big protected bubbles. If they don’t like their teachers then they won’t like the school and won’t perform at any cost. The vitality Headmaster and teachers have little to no respect. Favourite to win the league?? Most knew this was never going to happen
Max needs a complete fresh approach or we really could be the next Swindon, Blackpool or much worse......
Get people who put the club first. Not themselves

But for that to happen you need to examine all of the club’s employees... starting at the top... Max has done nothing so far to show he’s lost faith in a Blake and Hughes’ ability to run the club, so I’m not expecting new faces anytime soon... and given their track record here of placing the right manager at the helm, who invariably then picks the right players and formations etc... I’m not expecting miracles for next season...

The statement about being committed to the club and it’s goal of returning to the top level was written post EH departure... so unless complete bullsh*t, he obs still believed in tweedle dumb and dee at that stage... Let’s hope he doesn’t allow them to go for ‘third time’s a charm...”

The worry for me is does Max actually have any real understanding of what damage is being done? Those at the top have been making poor decisions for a couple of years now. You get away with for a certain amount of time but there’s a point when you get found out and issues increase rapidly. Are we at this point?
I have to agree that King Eddie was a much bigger cog in the system than I ever realised. HUGE in fact. The remaining cogs are full of rust and no one holds the WD40......

Im sure Al has been posting these theories, tales of doom for 15 years now... although they did stop for a few years when doing well in the PL.

We can moan about the players but, come on, teams like reading Swansea and Barnsley aren’t that good. It’s a bang average division so good organisation, hard work and a bit of skill gets you a play off spot.

the fact we are worried about getting into the play offs with this squad is a disgrace.

I'm sure all (well, most) footy clubs will have horrific finances being revealed soon. I know Middlesboro have released theres.... and its not pretty! Similar sort of issues with relegation, PL wages etc, oversized squad etc. That said, I do think we have created our own issues, that have been made by the choices regarding infrastructure spending (zilch) compared to spending on salaries (massive) in order to be "successful". I'm guessing thats what Al is focusing on.

“Without parachute payments from the Premier League a lot of clubs wouldn’t survive. I always say to people, what is the purpose of a parachute? When you jump off a cliff it stops you from killing yourself. Financially, if you didn’t have parachute payments you would go from having £100m in TV revenue to £7m. You do that to any business and it will destroy the business. My view is that parachute payments aren’t the problem - the problem is the difference between the Premier League and the Championship. If you narrow that difference you don’t need parachute payments anymore"
