Gary Cahill

..I think that Cahill is an astute piece of business by SP, brings leadership and experience to the defence and should help with Ibsen-Rossi Zemura Stacey Meps and Kelly development working with them...

I agree though Steve Cook's day seem to be ending with us, which is a shame but we must move forward and drop some of the sentimentality....SP is in charge and will want to do things his way?

If these rumours are true then what a sad way for his journey with us to end. I have heard that he threw his toys out when purchy, moss etc were given the push and losing the captaincy kind of confirms it as far as I can see.

I've no idea but when you look at the list of high earners from last season it's probably as simple as that.

Sorry Blandford Cherry, you're on my works computer but not on my phone I must have you on ignore or something, yes, potentially looking a lot better now, thanks for thinking of me.

I concur.
The one thing we will need in this league and in fairness every league is some nous!
For me IR can only improve with Cahill next to him, "push up, drop back, go left etc." He will help him with years of experience, very good bit of biz.

Kelly, realistically is still learning his trade and should get better with Cahill here.

Done deal!

Maybe... Looking at him as a player now, I do just think "Why do we need him"? Wonder if they might be looking at him in a semi coaching capacity for the future too? Otherwise, his salary this season is likely to be high and it does't make a lot of sense. I really want us to play Meps, though because I think there is a talented defender in there but he really needs the game time for his confidence and momentum.

We are talking here about (just off to Wiki, back in a minute!) :grinning: a player who has played 437 league games plus Internationals. You add our whole team appearances from last night together and they probably wouldn't add up to that. Meps and Cahill would make a formidable centre back pairing. I fear Steve Cooks days are numbered. He is Southern based which is a plus, no chance of him missing home. Salary will be high but he will take a cut on his Palace wedge. Yeah, maybe coaching is something in the pipeline here for him but I would think Parky's main aim on getting him here is get us back to VARland. :grinning:

Played 20 times for palace last season. Won everything there is to win domestically. Let’s not kid ourselves here, as much as we all love Cook, Cahill is most definitely an upgrade. I think he might struggle with lack of pace playing in a high line but then again I imagine Cook would too. So many direct teams in this league that he’ll surely be an asset.

I don't know whether Parker and Cahill are friends from the England days but it could be that he's asked Cahill to come down south and tutor the kids and as others have said possibly move into some form of coaching role in the future.

You're absolutely right about the appearances and if he's looked after himself the way that players do nowadays then he could have a couple of good years left.

Plus we need somebody to sort out free kicks, long throws and corners in our box. Could be great there.
