Non - E-Scooters

its a case of pick your idiot to hate. some don't like scooter idiots, some hate bike idiots, my preferred idiot is anyone who chooses an oversized "car", generally a range rover, audi, bmw, merc big (usually black) tasteless vehicle that is unnaturally clean, and loved by their owner at the expense of anyone or anything else.

A larger carbon footprint than a car? More dangerous than a bike?

You're comparing apples with bananas.

How about comparing like for like.

A scooter over one mile and walking.

Which would I rather fall off at speed?

A bike.

Which would I rather be run over by?

A scooter, there's more chance that the git who ran me over will get hurt. :grinning:

too many people. we're like ants. squabbling over space. making more & more rules & laws because we're too close to each other (with no one to enforce them). polarised views, strong self-entitlement, over- privileged, aggression - not a great mix is it? people mock gb news yet 95% of people I know could be on it. today I am going to embrace being a grumpy old ****************************. up the chezzers!

:utc:
A few weeks ago I spoke to 2 officers...those who help the police... and they told me that these scooters are being made legal soon and that they couldn't catch them anyhow because they can travel at 50mph. I blew my hooter at one of them who was swerving along the road in front of me and he was quite indignant saying take my number if you like but I'm insured. I told him that he may well be correct in that aspect but you've got no road sense. I was sad to read that a young child is in the news today having been hit with a scooter and has a broken collar bone. I was of the opinion that they could not be used on Public Highways. I saw 2 school girls with flowing hair who looked like twins who were having great fun racing along a pavement but they were acting in a v dangerous way.

I think the day is nearly upon us.... when we can finally merge the echo readers comments and this forum into one glorious, weird whinge world

You could well be right, I fear we are straying into OHEC territory.

Again...why are you comparing scooters with walking? Why not compare walking with driving? If you regularly commute into London and work 2 to 3 miles from Waterloo, why not use a scooter? Many people take bikes on the train to use when they get there...Its an option.

In an ideal world we all work from home and travel where we need to by bike or on foot but as you know thats not going to happen.

PS...you'd prefer to fall off a bike thats going twice as fast as a Scooter? Really?

The simple solution is to make them all legal but follow the same path that hire scooters have, in that you need to be over a certain age (for even the smallest bit of common sense to prevail), hold a provisional licence (for accountability and repercussions if ridden like idiots or drunk), and tag the scooters with some form of identifiable marker (again for accountability), so effectively you're making them like a car to ride, but with less of the outlay and not quite as strict...

There was a comment earlier about ladies being drunk on one (I think it was NSM)... I wonder how many people actually realise you can lose your licence for being drunk (over the limit) on Beryl scooters... A lady in Bournemouth has already been caught for drink driving on a scooter in around the Talbot area a few months back, and was fined and lost her licence...

Make them accessible, make the laws behind them fair and sensible, and make people accountable for owning and riding them... Then it's up to them and hopefully in time the grey space they currently fill, will be come more black and white...

It's worked for cars and motorbikes and whilst you do see some chavs hooning around illegally, 90% of the time, people respect the laws behind these forms of transport... It would certainly stop parents buying them for their young kids, who probably make up the lion's share of the complaints atm...

Stop being sensible and providing a framework in which scooters could be a viable transport option.

Its not the done thing around here ;)

Basically the only ones allowed within the law are the Beryl ones.

It makes you wonder why the private ones are being allowed to be sold and acquired so easily.

The police have seized a number already.

You're legally allowed to buy them to use on your own land. That's how they are being bought.
