Thoughts v Coventry

I’ve had a go at Mepham recently so must give him credit today. Played well on right of the back three … S Cook and Lerma also solid. For 70 minutes we were neat and patient, keeping the ball on the floor and avoiding the worst problems with the wind. It all looked so promising.

Worried about the panic that set in after the red card, especially on the left side of our defence, where Davies looked vulnerable. Coventry smelled the alarm and went for it. We can’t let that happen again … Parker needs coherent plans for a 10-man scenario. Today it looked as if he‘d not thought things through.

The strange thing was that for some time after the sending off we actually played well and could easily have scored a third. Then a combination of changes for both sides put us under pressure from both wings. I think taking Christie off was a mistake but we also have to give Coventry credit for the way they changed and pushed men forward particularly out side. Still 8 points clear and we move on.

…yes not feeling too impressed by our total confusion after Lerma was carded (I did call it when I saw him playing in defence!)
We had absolute control of the game and I couldn’t see Cov getting a single goal let alone two..all we needed to do with the ten was stay composed and play our possession game…but we looked liked startled children in a primary school kick around…when we needed leadership on the pitch we had no one and unfortunately Scott hasn’t done any preparations for being down to ten with the team which is really disappointing and surprising..
Anyway think that we need to find a resolute plan to defeat Fulham with what we have left in the squad for Friday UTC

Don't worry I'm sure Parker will make a a special effort and give the boys a good 20 minutes of coaching for the Fulham game.

I thought you said that you find us desperately hanging on to leads exciting?
Oh right! Well yes, I go to football for the adrenaline moments so if you can’t be well clear a scrap at the end is exciting but I prefer the more even ones with 11 v 11 not the ones where you have to purely defend.

What I didn’t like was the first 40 mins of sideways and backwards passing. People on this thread moaning at the fans forget the link between the excitement on the pitch and crowd involvement. The reason we were so quiet was because we were bored. Another manager that seemingly can’t play five at the back because they leave the full backs too deep.

I thought before the game if we got a point it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Having been 2-0 up it’s a bit of a sickener but there you go, it will happen 100 times more to a 100 different teams.
The one thing I would say is that when we look to hold out we carry zero threat on the counter which means we will always only ever be holding out.
Its a tricky spell, but we aren’t loosing any ground at the moment.

Today was a monumental opportunity to create a gap before Fulham and we f****d it, we royally fu***d it. I’m sorry but that felt heart breaking. I’m not going to make any predictions about where we might or might not finish but not holding out there FELT huge. Absolutely cruising and Stacy and Lerma combine to totally change the game. What on earth was Stacy doing with the back pass? What the hell was Lerma doing? I don’t care if he’s playing out of position he has to do better there, he is an international footballer FFS. I am absolutely fuming at the pair of them right now.
Almost anyone that's played at any level, would know why Lerma had to bring him down!

I was very pleased with the performance until the end really. With such a changed side, I thought we controlled a promotion rival with ease. I thought both Stacy and Lerma had been excellent up until the sending off. Likewise, I thought L Cook and Kilkenny had really bossed the midfield to more or less completely nullify Coventry. S Cook did well too.

Obviously, the red card changed everything. With hindsight, Jeff would not make the challenge and if they score, they score. With 11 players on the pitch, we still hold out for a 2-1 win.

I agree that today’s substitutions at least partly caused the confusion in our last ten minutes. I thought we were coping fine down the left hand side until Davis came on for Christie. But damned if you do. Damned if you don’t. Parker tried to waste a bit of time with the final two subs. I felt sorry for Rossi - it didn’t look as though he even had time to put his hair band in properly.

I genuinely don’t understand your existence on the board if all you do is criticise. You genuinely don’t understand the game, and certainly not the championship as a league.
Why don't you actually read the match day thread?.....I was nothing but surportive of the formation and the performance until the sending off .....I gave Parker plenty of credit for it....unlike you I'm actually able to comment on what I see.... honestly if JT had just lost a 2 goal lead in that manner and then come out with the 'i only gave them 15mins on the formation' quote what would the reaction on here have been?

Funny enough I enjoyed the first half.... largely down to Gav and L Cooks performances......I also thought our WBs were very high.... totally nullified Coventrys WBs as an attacking threat.

Probably because I was actually at the game and don’t need to trawl through pages of what I’ve watched. Unlike you I’m able to comment on what I see? What does that mean? Watching on a screen (assuming you did) doesn’t give you the full picture. Perhaps get yourself over for a game.

It was a shame we capitulated after the sending off but we still aren’t losing ground over Fulham so I’ll take that as a positive.
Agree with this Rob. To have your sticky spell and be no worse off is the biggest bonus in football (assuming you come out of it of course) had West Brom and Fulham been on form in last five games we could have been a couple points off second and 5 points off top

We really weren’t coping down the left side which was why, I think, he brought Davis on
