Thoughts v Borehamwood

Embarrassing first half performance, but not to dispondent and realistic enough to know that most of those won't be playing on Wednesday night. Cantwell was really good though, and has to start and I'm not sure Phillips did anything to displace our present centre halfs, Anthony was so poor again and should have been taken off at half time imo.

Today was the first time we played a team I have never heard of since Blyth Spartans, same result, same performance.
After that game I thought Pitman was not fit to wear the shirt - he proved me wrong, I am hoping Jamal Lowe bounces back from an absolute stinker.
Lewis Cook, Kilkenny, Anthony (first half out of position on the right) also had stinkers.
You are asking Lowe to play a lone striker with no one with 20 metres of him .
You play of the same type of midfielders , who apart from passing to themselves had no runners .
Static , predictable and slow tempo .
Our tempo from the start need to be fast and faster , instead we end up with slow and fu@@ing slow.

Some positive points then,

I thought Hill looked good.
Woodman showed that our permanent goalie is excellent.
Moriah-Welsh, if he plays like that out of position then he's a real prospect
We got to see the positivity that Christie brings
Parker has learned how to make an attacking change by bringing on Solanke for a defender.
Cantwell made some nice passes and looked lively. When he's match fit and knows the players around him then he could be a major asset.
Parker has nice shoes.

I'm struggling with anything else tbf.

Oh wait, club shop sale is on.
Leif Davis had a good game. Tried to make things happen.

Not sure if those commenting were there but it was pretty blatant the atmosphere mic by the away fans had been ramped up for tv. We've seen it before.

The ITV commentator had to apologise 5 or 6 times for swearing by the BW fans, mostly for their entirely correct analysis that we were effin' 5hit. Should have turned that mic down

I really enjoyed watching afcb today. Lots of commitment, passing into space, willingness to shoot and good technique to score some quality goals. Unfortunately that was the ladies team at verwood (first time I had watched them) while the men’s game was dreadful.

First half is on SP for a ludicrous line up with too many non creative central midfielders; no punch upfront; and removing our main attacking threat which is our left side play.

Sadly, Lewis cook and Jamal lowe were the pick of the non performers.

We have some tricky games coming up so SP needs to get control of the team toget some wins on the board as I feel some of the earlier goodwill has reduced.

Parker is most definitely the problem here. The way he sets the team up is totally orientated around having possession for the sake of having possession. Our starting system is very easy to defend against regardless of who is picked to play, there are a few reasons for this:
-we have all of our wide players hugging the touchline and frequently our advanced midfielders too, I have never seen a striker so isolated as Solanke (or whatever other poor bugger is asked to chase lost causes for ninety minutes) is. We play all this intricate possession orientated football but to what end? By the time the ball comes into the box Solanke is always outnumbered at least three to one.
-our patterns of play are so predictable that I could actually just write pattern (singular.) We switch play to the opposite winger and then that winger tries to find an underlapping run either from the full back or number eight of that side. If we are lucky enough to get that far we then try to score from a cut back. And that is quite literally all we do. All an opponent has to do is man mark the two number eights tightly and we don’t look remotely like scoring. There is absolutely no variety in our play whatsoever, it’s the same patterns of play and it’s all done in front of the opposition, exactly where they want us to be.

Frankly I’ve had enough of watching this now, it’s bloody tedious beyond belief. Our style is even more turgid than the ‘football’ that the likes of Burnley employ. Unless he changes formation and philosophy going forward I genuinely can see us missing out on the play offs.
You could be talking about Man City, they play the same way.

Rumours that Lewis Cook was taken off because he was the player that shot in the first half are as yet unsubstantiated.

We were good earlier in the season because we were playing different to a Bournemouth side had for awhile and opposition tacticians and managers were struggling with not enough evidence sussing it out. They then sussed it and we started to scrape results rather than win convincingly… then a few teams beat us and everyone studied that and copied it.

Our problem is our manager is stubborn. Most people would change it up at this point but he values his system over everything. All of his ‘No plan B’ comments smack of arrogance. Today he went again with the same wallpaper football by numbers text book approach and even a counter plan with Conference players was comfortably enough. By the time he finally went to two forwards and crossing the ball it was too late. Start that way and we’d have won.

My biggest issue is boredom. I don’t care much about results, I wouldn’t have supported us for years If winning was my everything. I’d have sky sports and support a giant if that was what mattered. Like everyone I just want to have a laugh and be on the seat of my pants and energised.

Any manager that values their dull system ahead of fan entertainment shouldn’t be at a football club. Having 80% possession with no meaningful shots is no different to having Pulis lump the ball the length of the pitch and regrouping. It really isn’t.

The commentator said on " Back of the net interview" he has to say it even if there isn't any swearing, part of the rules of live broadcasting apparently.

There was plenty of swearing coming through loud and clear. My son was desperately trying to work it out but his English swearing is still limited. If it has been his first language he would have had no problems.
