Good news thread

I counted 10 newts in our little pond on Wednesday ( most I've ever seen before was 2 ). Checked up on them and told the Good Lady they were Common Newts. Her reply was "Oh no, we're not having chav newts in our pond. Common implies they fornicate in there without regard to who's looking. Better to refer to them as Bohemian newts." So we have 10 Boho' newts in our pond : )[/QU
AFCB went through March unbeaten and the way its going April is looking promising as well.

Staying up.
I predict GOING up

Perhaps you could tell 'her in doors' you made a mistake and that you've Googled it and found out that they are Great Created Newts....that sounds better doesn't it!
A year or 3 ago I remember catching the Great Crested ones but as I snatched at them their tails would fall off, there, that's a bit of useless information for her to worry about when she goes to bed. x

Just got back from a walk in the Christchurch area and in the last two days there has been a report of the sighting of a white tailed eagle.

No sign today though.

As the crow/eagle flies it’s not far from the IOW where they have them.

Just over a year on and just seen this which isn’t good news.

A rare white-tailed eagle found dead in Dorset was poisoned, police have confirmed – but they have shut the case, in a decision the RSPB has called “baffling”.

The eagle was one reintroduced on the Isle of Wight, where a successful programme has been taking place since summer 2019. The white-tailed eagles had become extinct in the UK in the early 20th century after they were poisoned and shot by gamekeepers.

Those who run shoots are often opposed to birds of prey being in the area, as when they fly over a shoot, the birds scatter. They also occasionally predate on game birds.

The eagle was found dead on an unnamed estate in Dorset in January, and police launched an investigation into its death. Many conservationists in the area suspected it had been poisoned.

"The local MP, Chris Loder, a Conservative, was opposed to the police investigation, arguing that looking into the death of an eagle was a waste of funds. He also said that white-tailed eagles were not welcome in Dorset."

says it all

If you can’t read Guardian story.

Following the deaths in January, Dorset West MP Chris Loder said police should not spend time and resources on such an investigation.

He added Dorset was "not the place for eagles to be reintroduced".

His comments were described as "sinister" by TV naturalist Chris Packham.

The police colluding with landowners is nothing new. All over the country the police are protecting those who indulge in illegal fox hunting.
