Gary O'Neil

Why do people always say the choice is between GON or a big name on a massive salary. To me this was never the choice (I know the board went for Bielsa but don’t agree with this either). To me the choice was between GON or a decent up and coming manager at a modest club either in the UK or Europe, one that wasn’t learning on the job which we all agree GON is.

Last time we went down we had a PL squad to come back with. This time we will lose Lerma and I’d imagine Solanke. The time for a proven manager was now.

Anyway, if it’s GON we’ve just got to get behind him and hope he has enough. The 18 month contract and the long pursuit of someone else to the point of final deal tells you what the board really think.

Just a thought but we might not go down though Neil, so we might not lose Lerma & Solanke.

‘This time’ we definitely heading down then?

Oddschecker showing us as relegation favourites now. Saw we were equal favourites with Forest yesterday. Do recent results mean nothing?

All it means is more money has been laid on us and Forest since we were promoted, so to minimise their losses the odds are lower.

Of course but what has happened since our last game to make more people bet on us (rhetorical question)

I see it’s on sky news that he’s been appointed.
Have i missed something but I haven’t seen an announcement from the club.

I agree that Bielsa wasn't the choice and I too would have preferred to look at an up and coming young manager from lower divisions as well as GON but then to be honest Gary is a young and up and coming manager and he was literally in our doorstep. If the investment talk is correct then rebuilding a squad should we go down shouldn't be a problem apart from FFP possibly.

18 months……

No hidden messages there about how strong a feeling the board have for him!

TBH don;t think it matters in reality. Expect he's a bright chap that knows that if he underperforms ie relegated, or plays dull stuff that gradually annoys fans, but still just about avoids relegation, he'll be gone.

He has nothing to lose, if he does well he'll more than likely keep his job, even if sacked on back of that, he'll get a top championship job.
