Kevin Keegan

Females discussing the male game?

Unlike you Keegan isn't making a point of slagging the women's game off, he actually makes the opposite point. He's talking about people criticising professional players at a level higher than they ever played at.

There's no guarantee that they will be good pundits but they have played at that level and can therefore talk with authority about it. No female player has ever played at a level with as much power and pace. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with Keegan but he has a legit opinion.
He has a right to voice it, but I'd imagine plenty will voice their disagreement with him. In a way, him saying it could open dialogue on the subject, which I think will be a good thing. I wonder what Brian Clough would have said about it..

I don’t think I’ve ‘ slagged’ off the women’s game, it’s a totally different game, I actually coach the local girl’s team. I’m guessing you never got picked for your school

Tbf he does specifically say about female pundots who say things like "they should have done this" and you can understand why he would think that they aren't particularly qualified to speak about the technical aspects of such a high level of football. Personally I would draw the distinction between that and discussing tactics, some of which are universal, hence Emma Hayes has made a great pundit.

Knew you'd say that. Just won 50p off my missus for saying that you'd bring up me playing football at school.

Not me because I am
Not me because I am female;)
good for you, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t support the female game, making it comparable to the male game is what turns folk off in my experience

My personal view is that Keegan has that stale misogynist and arrogant view that a lot of footballers his age do. Their livelihoods threatened by female commentators and their status threatened too. So women can’t commentate on a player because they couldn’t do what they could do on a pitch? Micah Richards couldn’t do what Messi did on a pitch, or even start to concieve it. Where do you draw the line?

When sky did their media shows there were some great journalists on there. Patrick Barclay was one who springs to mind think he is no longer here but there were others too Henry Winter etc. Insightful and fascinating with an in depth knowledge of the game far surpassing footballers and an articulation missing in a lot of ex pros. Would I rather listen to one of them at half time over Chris Sutton or Mark Lawrenson… every fucking day of the week. Have they played the game to even decent amateur level….no. Katie Whyatt a good read too.

Old boring boys club in full force.

Lets face it we all know why women pundits are there,

My Mother and sister have equally valued opinions on football as I do, none of us played professional football and certainly not to the standards of Keegan

I’ll post you £50 if it will help get you superimposed on to your year groups team photo

Lol, are you one of those people who still judges yourself by what happened at school decades ago? I didn't think those people existed in real life. Were you a prefect? I need to know if I'm in trouble.
