Lloyd Kelly

If we are staying in the top half and pushing for Europe, and even the FA Cup then someone like Kelly should be useful....more injuries will happen...in that light keeping him at the expense of not getting a big summon money for him in January might be economical in the big picture....and then review things, including the players needs, in May.

Think we should cash in on Kelly next month if a bid of around 20 mill comes in…we will stay up this season…Europe would be sensational but in reality may be a step too far?
Sure that we can strengthen in the summer and use that money to help bring in a CB…we may already have the one in James Hill as well?

Keeping Solanke is also key unless an offer of 60 million plus comes in!

He’s got to be sold in January, even if for a modest fee. That’s if there are any takers of course. He’s a good player but he’s not so good imo that selling him would derail our season. And in all honesty, given his recent injury record who knows if he will even be available for a substantial amount of games second half of the season anyway.

For those being hopeful that he might sign a new deal, all of the evidence is strongly pointing towards the reality that he won’t. Nothing is ever entirely impossible but it is incredibly unlikely based on what Foley and Kris Temple have said, not to mention the fact that he clearly wanted the Spurs move in the summer. I think we could smash Spurs on Sunday and if they then came in with an offer the next day he’d jump at the chance to sign for them still, I really don’t think any amount of games we win will change his mind. He clearly wants to take the next step in his career and play in European competition as soon as possible, he’s done his time here and we just need to respect that he’s ready to move on. He’s 99.99% not here at the start of next season.

With 6 months to go on his contract, will we get much money for him? £20m would be great but not sure anyone will pay that

I would rather we keep him for the season but, with a decent December under our belt, less worried now. However, all you need is an injury to zabarnyi or Senesi and the squad looks threadbare in central defensive unless AI pulls another rabbit from his hat and converts brooks to cb.

Thus, if we sell, then a need a decent replacement lined up that is first team ready - a lot of our signings take time to settle in here especially with AI’s high press

If he signs a new contract, it’s a no brainer, but if not, I’d sell in January much as I rate him. As for fee, who knows, but often there are a few teams desperate for signings and willing to pay over the odds come the end of the month.
Yes, this for me as well. It's a business as well as a passion, and there have been times in the past where we have hung on to a player and missed on a nice payoff. He's a good player and been very useful for us, but doesn't seem to figure in the overall plan.

I say keep him untill summer (unless he is that injured he won't feature but then would anyone sign him?) what ever fee we receive we will lose again and maybe more replacing him, if we wait till summer it will go on the next lot of accounts? also whoever we replace him with might need time to adjust to AI just like our squad did

Agree, I can't see what incentive clubs would have to get in a bidding war to drive the few up. Surely they would talk to each other and agree not to bid silly money then try to win the player over. AFCB aren't in a particularly strong position to demand a massive fee.

Has any player with six months left commanded a massive fee other than players at the very top of the game?

Any agent worth their salt will already be talking to clubs about hypothetical signing on terms for LK. Perhaps angling for a 6 month loan to the most promising hypothetical club, who could pay AFCB a few mil loan fee. If he leaves in Jan, I'd say this scenario is more likely than a transfer.

I hope / am sure AFCB are doing their best to keep discussions alive, especially since our upturn in form, might show LK and his people that there's more road to run here.

Few million isn’t worth it if you get c£5m for each league position. Avoiding a couple of places lower nets £10m if you don’t need to replace lloyd until the summer

As has been mentioned in the Dango thread I'd be careful in concluding that we don't need Kelly now that Outtara has shown some promise at LB. We're short in defence anyway and critically so if we lose Kelly. That's if you can depend on Dango at LB week in week out, which is far from a given.

A most excellent and realistic comment. Kelly is clearly stalling on signing a new highly improved contract and so, will be off in January like a rat out of an aquaduct.
