Queens Park Rangers v AFC Bournemouth - 3rd Round FA Cup

Relevant paras from Echo.

Asked about Solanke’s absence, head coach Iraola said: “You could see he finished against Spurs with some issues.

“Small issues I think, just a knock.

“But him and Adam Smith were not 100 per cent for the game, so we just decided not to risk them and not to call them (for Saturday).”

Any thoughts about the performance of the referee? I thought she had excellent game and clearly wanted to let the game flow wherever she could. Fifteen minutes before the first free kick. What other refs might have seen as fouls and blown up, she was seeing as robust but fair challenges. For example the way Billing won the ball in the build up to our third goal.
Also thought she was excellent. Really liked her calm authority - crystal clear decision making and communication. Loved it when she picked up on Bego faffing about with a goal kick very early in the second half, blew her whistle, eyeballed him and pointed at the ground. He moved!

Refereeing is so much easier when you act clearly and decisively. She did.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet. Considering the debate around VAR at the moment, does anyone have an opinion as to whether our game was better without it yesterday? Take for example our third goal and Billing's challenge to win the ball from the defender in the build up. The defender went down but the ref obviously thought he had gone down too easily and allowed play to continue before Billing crossed and Kluivert scored. What would the manditory VAR review had done? How long would it have taken? And would it have been worthwhile?

Personally I'm in favour the concept of VAR because in theory it means that correct decisions get made. But there are ways in which its current operation has to be improved and I'm worried that it's getting discredited out of the game.
No, it was miles better.

I bet VAR would have ruled out our winner as a foul as (1) they seem to look for any excuse to rule out goals and (2) slowing it down would exaggerate the challenge by Philip. At full speed though it was a good challenge

This has been a quite pleasurable day all things considered.
The Cherries stretched our patience a bit and our emotions....with two very different halves of football.....against old foes QPR....who stole our promotion at the death in 1948 with a 1 - 0 win at Dean Court in a dramatic scenario in front of a huge post - war crowd..and had the reputation of our bogey team for a number of years....with Cherries fans who have largely departed Earth.
The rivalry was quite intense as those old Cherries would relay to us kids !
Their history has been similar to ours on the achievement front albeit slightly better with a League cup win as an old Div 3 club and a couple of high placed finishes in the old Div I....and a previous FA Cup win v Boscombe in 67....which we have now avenged..
QPR...one of the more friendly and modest clubs generally..so I hope they stay up this year.
And Wembley's first ever League Cup Final.

Oh dear...there was two balls on the pitch for a tiny fraction of the 95 minutes...I wasn't sure about what this crap was about....thought maybe it was some satire reflecting on the fact there were no balls at all inside the refs shorts ..No ?

What a fuss about f√ck-all...typical of this Forum....last week it was exaggerated numbskullery about a naughty ballboy.

The ref was no different than any other...an official with a whistle...no better no worse.....refs are about the most dignified people in this modern game of Football...the crap they have to deal with ...effete players on inflated pay.

Did anyone listen to the hour long exchange of stories on Radio 5 midweek between Defoe and Deeney.
My God I've never heard so much spoilt brat narcissistic crap in all my days..nearly all from Defoe...many of his sentences starting with
...." Me an' mah agent bro..we discussed the finances like.. and said nah like ".....Deeney's Watford stories were far more palatable..

...it was irritating me so much I turned it off ..parked the f√cking car up at a nearby Costa...had a Mocha and settled all the wtf 's going round my brain !

The commentators for the match in Sunderland as well as ours mentioned the absence of VAR in a positive light. In particular they mentioned the lack of long delays to sort out various decisions. I agree completely.

Since that spurs-Liverpool debacle, the var delays have got longer and longer. Kills the passion for the game

DJ and Mr Trent have decided the referee was better than usual, and we all know they are fully paid up members of the never wrong club.

Considering all I’ve seen is match of the day and have no opinion on the game I’m confused how I’ve decided anything.
