AFC Bournemouth v Leicester City - Fifth Round FA Cup

That was bloody awful. Our finishing wasn’t even 4th division standard. Not even having Dom on the bench was a big mistake.

Can’t be arsed to read back but did anyone else see Cook remonstrating with a fan in the Main Stand? Really not sure how it helps the team going into extra time. Looked like Smith had a word with Cook later.
Just responding on your last para Rob. Yes there's a guy in Block 6 about Row 7, he used to constantly shout at Billing, but for some strange reason at full time last night had a real go at Cook. Cook challenged him back. I get there was frustration there but didn't think Cook was the main culprit. A lot of folk nearby didn't like it, but when you've got a complete hot head who's blown a,gasket there's not much you can do. I tried to shout over for him to sit down but we're in the next block too far away.

As to the game, obviously our finishing plus a few square pegs in round holes. Got to admit though we were beaten by a worldy goal. Otherwise Leicester's finishing was almost as bad as ours, and fully anticipated pens.

Feels like that Leicester guy's worldie saved us all from being there half an hour later as the goal keepers line up to take the 11th penalty of the shootout with the scores locked at 0-0.

It's always a tricky balance in cups - do you give people their chance and make loads of changes or stick to largely the normal starters with just one or two.

He kept the same back four and they were fine but he changed most of the rest and there was the inevitable disjointed nature to our performance. Still, I thought we were the better side we were just extremely poor in front of goal and therefore got what we deserved. By the time the more regular starters came on in midfield and up front we looked completely disjointed because we didn't have a number 9 and Cook was in the back four.

One of those days but we do need to start creating better chances and being more clinical.
Agree with this. It was an off night mostly due to tweaks to our system. No lack of effort.

It’s simple. If the game plan produces 27 shots you should at least score and probably win. If the players ending up on the end of those shots can’t take them it’s because they aren’t forwards that can shoot. What other PL team would play Dango, Faivre, Sinisterra, Kluivert or Tavs outside the bottom three?
I haven't seen enough of Faivre, but you can't tell me that Sinesterra, Kluivert and Tavernier 'can't shoot' - that's ridiculous.

(I'll give you Dango though :) )

I don't agree that Semenyo wasn't up for it. He did struggle centrally but caused them trouble from wider positions. Shite finishing and final decision making though like everyone else.
Listening to the Leicester fans in front of me walking back to the car , they thought we were “ Shyte “ that Leicester would encounter some other equally “ shyte” teams in the PL next season and that they would comfortably stay up …
They also thought Semenyo was a threat throughout and our best player by far .

This won't go down well, post - breakfast posting - wise...but don't go shirty on me...it won't help.

Much of last night's game ...well you couldv'e nipped along the coast and seen similar quality at the Folkestone versus Potters Bar 0 - 0.

For Christ Sake Batman...wuv sent Brooks up the road...in a disastrous January panic ..where no panic was needed.

We stuck that mediocre fayre out there for the Nation to peruse...but not to hear much noise....the crowd was at it's worst....like Meyrick Park on a Monday morning before the Sun - up dawn chorus !

It was the FA Cup goddamn it ..seems modern players don't give a sh*t for it...and many fans.. ..the PL has done that to this Nations and the Worlds best tournament.
B@stards!

The much vaunted 'quality' of several of the new signings was on show...overrated...oh I think so on that perfumence....not a misspelling ...they might have been wearing it to go with their manbags...that's the sort of thing I would've shouted onto the pitch rather than what that idiot did who gave Billing that individual personal scapegoat slur ..we heard it .so he did.

Anyway....a f√cking disappointment as fans had worked up a Wembley visage over the month leading up.

But Boscombe we are and 'moving on' is our ingrained forte.. what better place and occasion to bring that in ..Burnley..beleaguered Burnley....
....just hope the Turf Moor turf ain't as slippery as Dean Court last night...that was weird !
Yup I know..so am I !

:wack:

Because we are a team that for too long has relied on Solanke and Billings goals in the last two seasons to survive. All of the forward players signed since….. and there have been many….. are nowhere near their scoring quality.
Completely ignoring other results. You really are strugling now aren't you?

For someone vwho says how much they enjoy the football under Andoni, you don't seem very positive about much of it.

Thats the funniest and most nonsensical post I've read in ages. Thank you!

They were second best for most of the night but they might be right about next season. What last night showed is their strength in depth, which is what you get when you operate for a sustained period in the upper half of the PL. Their youth set up is miles ahead of ours. By comparison they spent £100m on their training complex in 2020 - three times as much as ours even before you take inflation into account, which would be significant.

Yet they still got relegated so they really weren't all that. I didn't feel like I was watching Brazil at any time.

I think the key is their second string players played like a team that knew what they were doing and had played together... Lots of support and triangles all over the park... in contrast, we played for large parts like 11 individuals... Frequently not supporting the man on the ball, not looking for better options, misplaced passing... the list goes on... We played a very frantic game and lacked a lot of composure...

No I agree they weren't all that, but tbf they had made 11 changes or whatever, which is probably why their supporters think they'll comfortably stay up next year. They may or may not do but, whilst our first team should be stronger they arguably have better strength in depth by virtue of their recent history and how far ahead their youth structure is.

Well, looking on the positive side, I am pretty sure that last night's game will have made it abundantly clear in Andoni's mind that the focus in training now has to be on improving our goal return.

We are now very good at pressing, defending and getting the ball into the opposition final third and creating goal scoring opportunities.

Now we just need to focus on ways to become more efficient at getting the ball into the net. It's the missing piece and there is a lot of work to do.

Against better opposition we still seem to lack goals from players other than our main forwards. There is potential to add a few goals from other positions, surely ?
Also, as I mentioned in the Billing thread, if we are going to continue with these pot shots from distance, then we need to ensure that we have players prepared to follow them in and possibly pick up a second ball in a dangerous position.

Certainly plenty for AI to work on and I am sure that last night's game will have focused his mind. I remain optimistic. We can defend. We can attack. We are just very inefficient at converting the chances that we create.

I was just wondering if anybody has any idea as to how we are going to win at Burnley and Sheff Utd without Solanke and Unal? Would anybody be surprised if we lost both games due to having no strikers on the field?

Did anyone else think that once Senesi was subbed we looked totally less organised and effective?

Each substitution seemed to make us worse.

Worrying was the lack of anyone in midfield to win the ball. We couldn't even muster enough possession to make any late revival.
Absolutely spot on mate. Senesi was holding the whole side together and was my MOM by a mile. Sheer disbelief when he went off.

Cook's a human being. He's not a robot who can just take abuse from fans left, right and centre. Of course, the best thing is to not react, but humans react. We would likely also react in his situation. Cook put in a decent shift. The only thing he did wrong was take that free kick.
