Fair play Andoni

Bloody strange supporters we have...we Win an away game in the North on a cold winters day...and someone gives Tavernier a 2 /10.
If he was that bad why would a Manager of Iraola's calibre not take him off say at half time and order him to go and sit on the bus and read a Beano Comic....

All very deliberate...

"The Basque boss restarted: “It’s difficult to press Burnley because they use very well Trafford.

So sometimes it's not even enough to go man-to-man and you have to take very risky positions if you want be as aggressive as we've been last games.

“So we decided that they will have the ball there (with Trafford), but we were not reading well whenever we are not as aggressive they will try to play more direct.

“We were not winning these second balls and we were conceding things close to our box, free kicks, corners, which is not the game we want to play.

“I think second half we were much better with more energy, especially in the middle.

“After, when we win the second balls, we are dangerous in the contest and we had the chances to score with Dom, with Ant even before the second goal, and luckily we scored before they did.”

Hard to argue with much of that, perhaps the criticism of Neto being poor recently.
I think Neto is a great character but just has his limitations. He was pretty bad at the start of the season, maybe partly due to bereavement, who knows, but has been more solid over last few months. He's just not very commanding when the set pieces or crosses come in usually. I think that's his limitation.

Tav wayward shooting and passing
But got stuck in defensively
His recovery run after his dreadful free kick was epic
2 is downright disrespectful for a good player going through a rough patch
He'll get goals again soon I would imagine.

Serious question.....did you watch the game ?

Tavernier a 2. He gets the minutes. There’s some greater stats going on here that we can’t see.

I’ve been disappointed with him recently, but a 2, is just dramatic shite.
Ridiculous to give any player less than a 4, particularly in a hard fought away victory. Just clickbait…. And it’s worked!!

Tavs is off form at critical moments but if you were at the game you’d see the defensive cover and intelligence he has. That’s why he stays on the pitch and it’s why as yet we don’t trust Sinisterra or Dango. He is part of the reason we won so deserves at least a 6 for me.

Wasn’t an enjoyable watch reminded me of last years run in games where we were poor but took critical chances. Hopefully we will play better when everyone is rested, fit and not poorly.

Iraola is quite capable and apt to switching tactics, formations , shape and style when it suits....just like any Manager...Howe, Cardy Scott Parker, Gary friggin' O'Neil....Bond.... Fred Cox.......Harry Redknapp .Harry Kinghorn... Harry Lowe...
Ramsey, Clough...Nicholson....Shankly.... Herb Chapman...they all messed about with things until they got it right !

Pretty much how I saw it.....we set up a lot differently than we have in any other game this season .

Tavs stats clearly stack up with the analysts.

That’s been my thinking recently.

Well you know I didn't....so why ask ?
Just to trying and wind me up....and you also know i'm somewhat of a master of that myself....
So don't mind you trying ha hah !

I heard it on Flashscore commentary - got enough from that to be able to formulate an opinion.
I'm a Boscombe supporter of long vintage like you..a passionate and fanatical one ...otherwise I'd disappear from this instead of joining in with my emotional and pithy offerings !

Mostly agree with Waz’s analysis but giving Tavs a 2 is just silly. You were there Waz were you? If you were I can’t understand your judgment, in fact it’s just bizarre

Interesting. I'll admit I've not watched a lot of Burnley this season, but everything I saw yday and in the games I did watch made me think you absolutely DO want to press Trafford. He looked very uncomfortable.

I think Christie is just so important to the press and our style of play. When Christie isn't 'on it', the whole style of play looks ineffective. Also the nicking of the ball on the halfway line from Senesi is crucial to our style, and that's just not Mepham's game, so losing Senesi after 12 minutes was a major blow.

Another thing was that we looked so vulnerable on our left side, especially first half. Kerkez isn't as disciplined as Smith and it leaves gaps behind us, I feel like Burnley were deliberately targeting that and better sides would've hurt us. If fit, I prefer Kelly there in this system/style because it makes up for the lack of numbers when our front 5 all bomb forward.
