[NON] Wave 105

Just seen that Wave 105 will be no more from sometime this Spring.

Bauer (the owners) have seen fit to merge it with nationwide network Greatest Hits Radio.

Cant see the sense in it, personally - the station has a deserved high local reputation and continues to pull in strong listening figures.

They call it progress.
Hey-ho.

It looks like promotion for Rick Jackson and Mark Collins, who will join the GHR presentation line-up, and the rest being "retired".

They stopped the excellent Q magazine a while back too.

Yes nothing local or interesting allowed - just faceless national stations.

Give it 100 years and there will be one channel - 'The Radio' pumping out Ed Sheeran & Dua Lipa and other such lift music all day.

I thought I read some where that Bournemouth had the first BBC station outside London or something? Seemed doubtful but i'm sure I heard it somewhere.

“ I turn the radio on to try and drown out the rain - same bands same songs play again and again “

Off topic but I quite like Radio X. Lots of indie stuff from the 90s and 00's.

And of course Radio X Classic Rock.

BBC bizarrely recently axed the extremely popular Stereo Underground.
Stereo Underground was the best BBC Local music production. I listen to the Introducing Rock show and the number of bands that come from other regions local radio is crazy. I'm amazed that Hampshire, Dorset and IOW haven't produced anything of note.

This is going to sound like an advert, especially with an affiliate link, but sod it.

I recently discovered an internet-only radio station that I'm really enjoying. It's either advert supported or paid subscription. I know you're a man of culture so here's an (affiliate) link for a 30-day ad-free trial:

It won't ask for payment either so there's no scumbag automatic renewal at the end of the trial. In the unlikely event 25 subscribe using my link I'll get ad-free for life but to be honest I don't care if you want to strip out the referral :)

Yes , I couldn’t understand the ending of Stereo Underground- varied music and less well known tunes from the featured artists …

If it's internet only, then it's not really radio, is it?
Not quite sure what it should be classed as though!

BBC 6 Music is the best place to go for new music - got loads of stuff from there. Today Chris Hawkins is sitting in for Craig Charles, really good DJ

Prefer Absolute to Radio X - got the premium on the app so can jump around the different channels. Only £4 a month. No ads.

IOW? Level 42, The Bees and Wet Leg. Not a bad line up really.

Done better than our Air Traffic ;)

Here on the Purbeck's' we've just lost this one.

Not my cup of tea, but a really popular community station.

Started up with some grant money and a huge amount of free labour and goodwill.

The labour and goodwill remains, the black hole of trying to replace grant money sank it.

Fifty thousand a year was needed but the obvious revenue route of paid advertising was not possible. Only allowed to raise 12% of their overall turnover by advertising.

No idea why, but bonkers.

Here's an absolute classic from years ago that I'd forgotten about.

Turn it up..................................

Like a bit of H&O. Decent that.

Boom Radio for me. Mainly 60s and 70s, but some earlier and some later than that. A wide playlist, too; not the same old songs you hear time and time again on other radio stations.
