AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town - Wednesday 7.30 pm

Unal's impact completely changed the game. Their defence couldn't deal with his movement or his strength. He's willing to get stuck in, compete in the air and shoot. However, according to Rob Trent he's the equivalent of Sam Surridge
Nice twist but you know what it meant!

Wow that was quite the thing! Went straight to pub then fell asleep so a bit late to this party… can’t believe how anyone can end up arguing on a forum after a once in 21 year event but that’s some people I guess!

Reflections… it was a mistake to try and replicate a left side that did well against a Sheff U that were 2-0 up and not attacking and thinking it would work in a whole game. Not often Iraola gets things wrong but he did with that in my opinion especially as Luton’s right side is very strong. We were completely overran. Scott was really poor too he can’t seem to get into a game so we lost the midfield. Set piece management at both ends poor.

Half time saw Luton sit back, that with the introduction of the more physical Tavs made Dango look better, Unal did two things, played well himself and let Solanke drop to be far more physical and involved than Scott. This unsettled Luton.

In the first half Luton didn’t know how many they had to score but in the second half we did and that was the difference in the two half’s. Semenyo was outstanding and bullied them.. I liked the look of Adams on first glance tidy, calm and organising everyone.

I don’t know why people need to reference GON. Yes we wouldn’t have had a comeback like that with him but we wouldn’t have needed to because that Luton side wouldn’t have been 3-0 up against his low block. We can enjoy one managers win or wallow in defeat with no necessary meaning from previous regimes.

All in all… what a night. From despair to jubilation… that’s rock and roll football.

It's all well and good to knock the negative views of say R&R..and a couple of others...but let me put this into the mix...
OK....say we lose Solanke and Semenyo in the summer window...like for example Solanke to Newcastle....Semenyo to Liverpool, poached by Hughes...and Saints might buy Brooks irrespective of what league they are in..oh and the enigmatic Billing looks gone tbf...roughly that kind of scenario..
....with the highly unlikelyhood of any goals coming from Cook or Christie...or Scott who is quite frankly not that 'hyped good' ...we are thin on the ground for goals...back to Square one..and you can see how vulnerable our defence is in any season despite the efforts of Iraola and O'Neil and Howe before him.
Look at this..right.. although we have scored 3 more goals than Manu...that is more than adequate...our defence is always a problem in this league while we remain Tinpot...so losing that established strikeforce with Brooksy carelessly potholed, or more accurately described - drifting in the Scumsurf backwater and.. not withstanding that Unal actually looks a tidy asset....then its quite a worry.
A positive ...if I might dare slide one in...is that Foley might now get himself a better Recruitment set - up...and have that OUT of the current Tinpot naivety...d'you know what I mean.

See ...No F- Bombs or military style bloody buggering in this post....just a nice, niiiiiiiice gentle list ( leaned/ canted) to starboard and eventually steadying to midships.
Take it or Leave it ..or dry dock me in that there Port Ignore... if it suits.

Bournemouth's unforgettable night in numbers - Opta stats

  • Bournemouth became the fifth team in Premier League history to win a match in which they trailed by three goals, after Leeds United (v Derby in November 1997), Wimbledon (v West Ham in September 1998), Manchester United (v Tottenham in September 2001) and Wolves (v Leicester in October 2003).
  • Bournemouth became the third team in Premier League history to win a match in which they trailed by three goals at half-time, after Manchester United (v Tottenham in September 2001) and Wolves (v Leicester in October 2003).
  • Bournemouth are the fourth team in Premier League history to avoid defeat having gone 2+ goals behind in consecutive home games, after Liverpool (May 1999), Derby County (September 2000) and Reading (January 2013).
  • Dominic Solanke scored his 15th Premier League goal of the season, just the second Bournemouth player to net as many in a single top-flight campaign after Josh King (16 in 2016-17).

Cook is going to lose his place to Adams eventually.
Interesting. We were speaking about this in pub after. Logically you’re right. There’s something though in Cooks improvement and versatility and Iraolas clear respect for him that makes me wonder if we will see him and Cook carry on and Christie move back into the ten role.

The inconsistent part of our team has been whoever plays in the ten. Scott, Kluivert and Billing are so wildly inconsistent in this position and Cook isn’t inconsistent. I wonder if we will see Christie back there…

Just speculation based on five minutes so slightly tongue in cheek tbf but he does look like he's a natural in that position and a lot more mobile than Cook which should prevent the issue tracking runners that Cook has. I do agree though that Cook has been brilliant an Iraola is clearly a big fan.

Personally I don't think he'd prefer Cook over Christie and then there's also Scott who has looked good in that role at times.

I don't think Kluivert has been particularly inconsistent in the number ten role, although he is perhaps more suited to away games.

From BBC report.

Two stats show the duality of Luton - they have scored in each of their last 16 Premier League games, a club record run.

But, the Hatters remain one of just two teams – along with Sheffield United – yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League this season.

Cook is the first name on AIs team sheet. You could argue hes first, second and third with the number of positions that AI chooses him ahead of other players in.

You denying Cook was telling him where to go several times after he came on?

I’ve enjoyed reading back many of the first half comments. What wankers! Calling for Andonis head, Foley won’t be happy, Outtara is **************** etc.

Our defending was poor first half and we continued our recent form of missing chances. But don’t write off everyone because of that.

Dango had a much better second half with Tavanier in front of him but you won’t see that mentioned by our agenda driven chum.

And I love the fact that Andoni can change things with moves like putting Lewis Cook in the back line when needed.

Also thought Mepham won everything second half.

Hope you’ve stopped crying now.
I think your the best at presenting any positives Rob...steeped in a commendable, actually wonderful loyalty and as I see it, No 1 Cherry fan.

Enough of that schmaltz...your probably the only one capable of peppering my opera house with your dry wit and cutting comment bombs !

Point I'm trying to make is that it's healthy to stretch the positives to the limit....AND to have the negatives being stretched to their limits. Push / Pull mechanics.

We need both to get the Forum blood pressure , systolic and dystolic, balanced...but with enough pulse to be readable and relevant !
