Name That Attacker

Hi all,

We're in the dead period between league games so I thought I'd dig up stats to see how much they match people's recollection of the season so far. There is no way I'd have matched the players up to their xG and xA (expected assists) per 90 minutes. Good luck trying to guess who is who. When I'm online I'll give yes / no.

Here are the players I've considered. I've put this in as small playing minutes could distort the results.

I've randomised the players and listed them 1 to 16. Here are the xG graph, the xA graph (and then a combined one for people who like looking at them together).

Some notes:

League games only
OPTA stats
The sum of xG is more than xA because sometimes there aren't assists (think Solanke's goal at Newcastle)

I’m thinking the lower minutes might skew things, so maybe an Unal or even a Faivre as 1 xG per game seems high.

I think Christie is 8.
Christie isn't 8. His xG value was a surprise to me. It's not particularly high considering the stick he gets for his shooting. Although saying this, he is the 2nd worse when comparing real goals with xG.

Maybe this is too difficult, but it is a dull week.

Billing is 7.

On a side note, I’m surprised he has th 5th highest minutes. It feels like we’ve hardly seen him this season.

I think that's recency bias because he had a recent suspension and Kluivert has started to make the number 10 his.

EDIT: or are you just being cheeky about his perceived influence on games?

Unal 1, Christie 2, Solanke 16.

…scatter gun approach…
0 out of 3. Sorry
Rothwell 13
 - great answer
Cover all bases, I'd say Unal is 10 as I don't recall him making anything other than a shot within 16 yards for the goal.

One that should be fairly easy is Solanke as he has 15 goals in 28 games and his assists I think are much lower. So assuming he's not overperforming I think he's most likely to be 2.

It's a trick question, someone is a false 10 and the 6 and 9 are inverted. So I say it's all Paul Williams' fault : )
