Everton - FFP

I can never work out the definition of a big club. Crowds, ground size, city size, number of trophies won, the last time they won a trophy, transfer fees paid out, income received etc etc. On the income measure we are a big club compared to all bar about 30 others in the world. End of the day does it really matter.
Size always matters. ;)

No but success should be the key factor

Well redharry is probably right in that it doesn't really matter but ultimately I think clubs are judged on the size of their support. If Newcastle can be the fifth best supported club in the land despite not winning anything for over half a century it suggests a massive club. Everton are similar too and definitely preferable to the red mob from that city.

Newcastle are a massive club but Everton are bigger - they share a city with one of biggest clubs in the world and still get big crowds and have won trophies in more recent times which is quite an achievement

Sustained success, or failure plays part in stature.

Newcastle are clearly bigger than Blackburn imo.

Everton simikar bracket to Newcastle. Everton likely just shade it for me. Can't recall any one glory hunting Newcastle, but can recall Everton.

No one glory hunted Blackburn either despite walker money and few years near top and winning pl.

Fans wearing other clubs shirts down here or other places usually a good indication of a club reaching top tier, or very close to, stature.

Leeds simikar bracket to Newcastle and Everton.

Sheff weds very close to same bracket, but are now a tier or two below as never won anything significant when they were pushing on in 90s/early 2ks before losing the plot over the past decade or two.

We're not even at Middlesbrough/qpr or Portsmouth level imo. Held back by silly ground and need a few years mid table or above and bigger ground, high potential youngsters drawing attention to us. We're not taken seriously by wider football audience yet. Simikar level to Brentford, despite on paper us currently both having vastly superior squads to say Stoke, hull etc.

Were of course a bigger draw to players due being pl, having funds, but we're not a bigger club, stature wise compared to those ijust listed.

I got on the last bus home later in the year Blackburn won the league and spotted a bloke wearing a Blackburn Rovers hat. I took the piss about glory hunters until two words into his reply when his accent made it very obvious he was from the Blackburn area.

Obviously I stopped him there, apologised and we had a nice drunken chat about football, well that's how I remember it!

Always good value, chatting to fans of less popular clubs ime.

They didnt even sell out 30k Ewood Park, when they started to tail off the glory years.

Blackburn were the original Man City, they won a title last game of season when Liverpool of all teams beat them last game to help Utd but United drew at West Ham so got the fortune. They came 1st and 2nd but quickly faded when Walkers resources ran out and got relegated 4 years later.

I was in Blackburn end with mates at old Dell after they signed Shearer and others. Funny banter that day.

Saints fans singing 'where were you when you were poor/sh1t'.

Load of Blackburn fans opened their wallets and started waving money back 'loads and loads of money...'.
