Nicolas Jackson

Yes and then mostly talks about Newcastle and their fans!
The only other time I remember him picking a Boscombe player was the wee jobby and most of it was about how he dived when clearly tripped by an opponent (pre-VAR but still no penalty given)

Give it four years and he might pick another one!

Ask any good striker and they’ll tell you that the skill in goals like that is not in the finish, but the movement and anticipation. Good strikers don’t always need to be blasting them in from 25 yards, they’ll get most of their goals from 3 yards.

It’s a bit like what Maldini said about defending… “if I have to make a tackle then I’ve already made a mistake”. Positioning and anticipation is everything at the top level.
What about when they miss from there more often then they score?

I know which of these two I'd rather have with the ball at their feet in the opposition box.

Solanke also has an assist.
Agreed, although Solanke had an xA of 0.75 whereas Jackson was 0.78, so I didn't think I could credit Solanke here. There is a different discussion to be had on whether Jackson should have been performing better in a team that has spent much more than us and always finish above us.

Didn't realise this was a comparison between Solanke and Jackson.

You can have two strikers you know.

Jackson was looked at to play alongside Solanke, not to take his place.

We could do with a couple of those
We used to have plenty of goals coming from midfield in EH’s promotion winning team. Once the squad evolution under EH started they seemed to dry up.

It’s been a while since we could expect a goal every other game from a midfielder, hasn’t it ?

I do think that AI’s system would benefit greatly from a midfielder with a decent shot on him. Alex Scott could be that player, once he’s fit and allowed to play further forward. Here’s hoping !
