Neto

Blaming Neto solely and not other defenders just proves my point.

Agenda driven.
Lol it's just paranoia on your part Rob.....you can criticise a player without having an agenda....what do you expect?.....'oh unlucky Neto you nearly caught that one'?....anyway as Kudos pointed out last seasons set piece woe's were Gon's fault.

I see his performance in the context of the team. You were happy to blame him solely for our set piece defeats last season.

Been very vocal on my opinion regarding our need to upgrade from him to have any chance of progressing, but today I find myself feeling very angry with what I’ve just watched.

Countless times today Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez all put their bodies on the line to try to fight for a positive result. They could have done little more in terms of effort.

Neto had just two occasions in which he had to stand up and put his body on the line, and in both instances he took the cowards route.

When the ball is rolling in front of you like it was for the second and third goals you simply have to be brave and commanding, but everything on the line for your team. He just didn’t seem to care enough to do that.

In both instances he had a very good chance of smothering the ball had he just done what he is paid to do, but he didn’t.

That for me is him completely done now, I can take mistakes to a degree but as a fan I can’t take it when a player doesn’t show willingness to fight and put his body on the line. Get Travers in for the rest of the season, he may not be good enough but at least he’d fight for his place in the team.

Such a shame to lose a game like that.

Isn’t he top earner or at least right up there? And contracted until 2026. Earned off the back of his performances last season which played a huge part in us staying up.

That will complicate things though, it’s a big contract to have sat on the bench.

It’s a shame because I like him, but he hasn’t really done enough to keep his place for a while now. With his age, it definitely feels like he’s on the downwards curve now. I think we need to be proactive and strengthen the position in the summer.

The first goal was laughable beaten at his near post.....most keepers make themselves look big....Neto knees down.
The second and third became goals the moment he decided to do absolutely nothing to influence those situations.

The first was like having a statue in goal.

He did okay last season but he’s costing us way too often now.

Feel like we probably expect too much from Neto and perhaps being guilty of having slightly short memories. He was a player signed when the club had slimmer pickings. He’s terrible at crosses and really struggled this season especially, but last season he was wonderful on many occasions and may have been the difference in keeping the team up.

Like a few other players on the pitch today, he will be replaced with someone better as the club is now in a different place. Travers, I think has been given multiple opportunities and shown not to be up to it at this level.

Regarding todays game, Villa are a class outfit and I think our defenders had a bit of a nightmare, mostly because the rest of the players (including fullbacks) were too far up the pitch and were exposed (zabarnyi perhaps had his worst game for us today?)

I think he was better last season because the tactics were much more defensive so he was protected more. It doesn't strike me that he's doing much different to then but he's more exposed by AI's attacking mindset.

I think this is a fair summary. He also seems to be one of those players who is a great captain from the other player's perspective, like Simon Francis. He's a real problem now though because he's on such a big contract. We need to upgrade keeper options in a big way.
