Is Fernando a better target than Ake?

Morning chums.
First let me jolly well say I think Ake is a rather fab footballer and if we do sign him that is fine by me.
However just as an alternative train of thought:
Manchester City are looking to off load Fernando their 29 year old defensive midfielder for around £8 million.
He's experienced, played at the top level for many years and could add a lot to our squad.
If Ake is going to cost £20 million, then Fernando at £8 million could be dashed good business.....and still allow us that extra £12 million to buy a decent centre half to bolster our defence......

Only if the north stand drummer returns.

Otherwise, no. The fee may be lower but I'd hazard a guess his wages would be a lot more making the deals much of a muchness financially. Plus, at his age, he'd be a depreciating asset compared to Ake potentially providing a good return.

Fernando is a defensive midfielder and Ake is a centre half so why can't we have boith ? We have been linked with both after all.

Imho Don't think you get a decent centre back for £12m that is better now than either mings or franno given maguire was £17m
