My wife is reading me this from the Sunday papers. The politically correct are in high dudgeon over three Christmas classics over here. Charlie Brown Christmas because of the religious references. The song Baby It's Cold Outside, for sexual harassment/date rape. And Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, for bullying. Sounds like it should be a joke ----- sadly, it's not.

Rudolph was certainly not bullied by the other reindeer's..FACT!.....they cannot see the colour red due to not having the colour detecting eye cells that humans have....hth

Some papers have an agenda. I stopped buying papers a while ago.

Media blows things up. I'd be interested in the source of such stories.

So many people are so mixed up.
A new barmaid in our local after serving me in silence for two weeks suddenly told me that I must be Tory because I don't like Corbyn, and i'm not ' normal' because I don't smoke...bizarre! I put her right. She leaves the bar unattended every 30 minutes, stands in the road outside smoking with a face like a wrinkled cider apple, an aura pickled in sulphuric acid, in her Man U Top( who else!) Then I found out she has taken her child out of school for the whole December because of the Nativity Play.......she is born and bred Cornish. There are only two Muslim kids in the school both of whom have joined in with the Nativity ...it's mad alright! She's upset now...on a warning about being rude to customers!!

The Christians didn't really steal the winter solstice. The Romans had a winter festival - much like the northern Yule - called The Saturnalia.

When the then Roman Emperor, decided to embrace the new-fangled Christian religion - probably about 400-years AD, he changed the name from The Saturnalia, to The Christ Mass (don't forget, Christ means 'The Anointed One', it's not a name)

Obviously there was a slight problem with the 25th December being the Son of God's birthday, due to the emperors Julius and Augustus adding in a couple of months to the calendar, around the time of the God Child's birth (record-keeping was a bit hazy then)

It became popular (and then traditional) around this time to present gifts to one's pets; these were usually in the form of food and had the added benefit of reducing the congregations to a size that the new churches - replacing the giant temples - could accomodate.

10. In 2007, Santa Clauses in Sydney, Australia, were banned from saying 'Ho Ho Ho'. Their employer, the recruitment firm Westaff (that supplies hundreds of Santas across Australia), allegedly told all trainees that 'ho ho ho' could frighten children, and be derogatory to women. Why ? Because 'Ho Ho Ho' is too close to the American (not Australian, mind you) slang for prostitute.

11. Some US schools now have a 'holiday tree' every at Christmas, rather than a Christmas tree.
