'ammer's forum

West 'Am are a funny club. Not one I have much issue with [ no idea why we would upset some of their support so much to be honest ] - but I do have a real grind with their horrible one song about bubbles....its a terrible dirge...on a par with Wendy Saints as the worst football chant of all time. And it's all they bleeding well sing! For that alone....that should be a Room 101 entry.
I lived in Essex for many years, and most people I knew were Hammers. I have to say, they were really all right, with none of the pretensions and arrogance of the other major London clubs. Far more likeable than Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal, surely ? Plus, they've made a vital contribution to English football history and culture.

As others have said, there's a strong DNA link between WHU and AFCB. I recall that for a while we were nicknamed West Ham On Sea !

That post does sound a lot liker a dose of bigclubitis, but maybe dibby should have reworded to in a league with Derby, Leeds, Forest, Wednesday, and Portsmouth

Bigclubitits. Love it. The usual, what constitutes a big club?

Global support
Season ticket holders
Size of ground
Value/worth
Trophies (laughable as Corinthians in the isthmian league would be huge as would the Royal Engineers)

End of the day it matters not how big you are it’s how you fared in your last game and how attractive you are to your fans.

But for the record we’re a sleeping giant.

Obviously, by any criteria, WHU are not a "massive" club in the way that Arsenal or Chelsea are. But who really cares ? West Ham occupy that space somewhere between Palace/Watford/Fulham and the London Big 3. And every so often they'll give one of their uppity neighbours a bloody nose. Quite right too.

All of us who supported AFCB through the decades were never in it for "glory", or the faux prestige of following a successful team. No, it goes way deeper than that.

But anyway, I've always harboured suspicions about those kinds of people who attach themselves to Liverpool or Man Utd, despite there being no local or family connection. What's that all about ? Nearly as bad as coming from Bournemouth but choosing to support Saints.

This is what has always annoyed me! Anywhere in Dorset to extend it as well. I blame those that abandoned us in the mid to late 70's, when they won the Cup. Now that support has been handed down to their kids....I know plenty from my old home town, Blandford, all Soton fans because their parents were.

Agree.....although we all get drawn into this ' big club' thing...it's still about results and performance mainly....Leicester under Ranieri showed us that!
We at Bournemouth are not there if ' big' is being considered and will never be in 11,000 stadia mode!...ridiculous really when you see the size of Kings Park and the Car Park alone!! ( that's the joke for me).

But back to West Ham.....nothing...nothing will convince me that the Hammers are not ' as big ' as Man Utd. If you push me into corner....ok they won Two European Cups and could shade it on that..but then so have Forest.. As I've mentioned before West Ham have the other 66 Fame. That is Big Clout in history terms and means a lot to a lot of people!
I really don't like using Money aspects to judge it..that CAN change too!
Then if we , say, stuck 5 in the net today with no return...how would that pan out in terms of big...;)

I think those top 6 ambitions might have to be parked for our resident Hammer, cos they aren't anywhere near good enough. Poor game today overall, but we take the points, and that's the double over them for the season. An embarrassment for any self respecting top flight side against Bournemouth!

They had loads of possession and did bog all with it. Realistically we should have scored more with the opportunities we had... for example, that over-hit pass from King when Fraser would have been one-on-one with the keeper :slap: I really thought that was going to come back and bite us but they offered almost no threat.

The only chance I can think of that they created is the Carroll one and to be fair to him, it was further out than most of the goals he scores with his feet.

They're a lot more than one striker away from threatening the top six.

Apparently we were rubbish and they had an off day. A team with a lead of one point on us so far.

Cheered me up!

"Wilson had another good game today but he's not the answer for us due to the ridiculous transfer fee. Bournemouth have obviously stuck the fee on him to keep clubs away and should he go they want 3 times what he's worth. IMO Wilson is only slightly better than the likes of Charlie Austin was in his prime, we need to look abroad and quite honestly even a 100% fit Sakho would be a huge improvement over where we are right now. "

Wilson a £25 million player? Hilarious.

Deluded. I had to laugh when they said our only song was Barmy Army in the earlier comments and thats all they sang first half.
