Jefferson Lerma

Anybody else just wish he'd get his booking so we can get this 2 match ban out of the way? I can't help but feel that trying to not get booked is affecting his game slightly.
Please don't rag on about Lerma - that's my job

Maybe he has been carrying an injury, which would affect his performance.

He has had a lot of bad luck with injuries, hence stop and start, which can’t help his game.
Agree with that. Did Junior do the full pre season ? He's injured so often I can't remember. It does seem a lot harder for the lads that don't get pre season in. It always seems like they are playing catch up and in Juniors case that is almost impossible.

The only thing affecting Jeff’s performances recently have been his slight injury.

As I stated last time this theory was suggested, look at the match ratings contributors to this forum gave Lerma before and after his 9th booking to see the lack of change.

That said, another yellow in the 89th minute v Wolves isn’t a bad idea if the game is comfortable...

It appears that I am not permitted to make other comments on this site without being pestered about my previous comments on Jefferson.

Let me make this clear. I have researched this young man......Jefferson is a very tough guy that has fought his way "tooth and nail" out of the "dog eat dog" Colombian football league. Along the way, he has been subject to extreme racial abuse, that is a fact. He has also been badly injured a number of times in "payback" for his own aggressive tactics.

He behaves in fact, like a wolf......His skill set is not in question......however his effectiveness was based in an environment where tough, "marginal" play was tolerated. In other words, he is "a street fighter", just like Roy Keane was.

Unfortunately, The Premier League will not tolerate "street fighter" tactics anymore, because the value of Premier League players is such that they will not allow him to threaten assets that are worth tens of millions of pounds. Clearly, we have recently seen that Jefferson appears "out of his element" while trying to adjust to a league that is much stricter on him.

Can Eddie tame the wolf without "defanging" his capabilities? I am not sure. He is not good offensively in midfield and will have to prove his defensive worth without resorting to aggressive play. I would have thought that his future would be better served in a warm climate environment where he could comfortably speak his own language and hopefully mellow out.

Presently, the facts are thus......The Cherries are the second lowest fouling team in the League with only 8.7 fouls per game, of which Jefferson contributes about 20% thereof. I am happy to give him time, but.....he costs a lot of money. If a Spanish team is willing to pay us "Big Cash" for him, I think he would be a lot happier in a Hispanic environment. That would free up a lot of cash to hire a midfielder that plays a lot more in the B'mouth way.

Have you ever seen him play? Actually seen him that is, not watched the TV. I somehow doubt it.

And, by the way, wolves are excellent team players and live far from urban areas. They are the antithesis of street fighters.

Bit earl

Have you been on the bottle?

For years if not decades we have needed a strong even gritty midfielder. A disrupter even an enforcer.

We play flowing attacking football without the bite to stop other teams doing the same.

Now we have one and you suggest he doesn't fit in. Maybe we need this change. The next step in our rise up the league's.

He's a beast but he is our beast.

Oooh Jefferson Lerma.

Roy Keane a street fighter? Just a fucking bully who picked his victims carefully!

Granted, He is a beast.........But will The Premier League allow a beast to play in it?

Lerma has been one of our best players this season. The way we were playing for the first quarter of the season was, in part, due to the freedom he allows the other players.
He barely has had half a season in the Premier league after starting late and looks this good already. Let's see what he does for the last quarter and next season.
The way he stops attacks by the opposition is incredible and something we've never had. Did you see the way in the second half against Hudders, when he stretched every sinew to block the pass with his head which then set up an attack for us.
He's not bad at picking out a pass either. The ball he played to King - who should have setup Wilson at the start for the second half was sublime.

You get what you pay for and we paid a ton for Jeff and I think it was worth every penny. My opinion counts for nothing though as I have only seen him play on tv.
We paid a ton for a lot of people that didn't work out. The trick is to trade them for others that do work out.

I don’t really disagree when any of the above posts. I’m wondering if Jeff is just trying us out to see if we fit him. His partner and daughter still live in Spain as I understand it so perhaps he’s keeping his options open.

I think that he seems very much "a fish out of water" if he cannot play "hardball"
