AFCB's finances

With last summers spending and our splurge in Jan, it was obvious to me at least that our net spend was going to be relatively low this summer. The fees for Mings and Lys might be a welcome surprise for us fans, but I doubt it’s that much more than we planned for.

So it may mean we can get a slight upgrade on the midfielder we were initially planning to bring in but that’s as far as it will go. Certainly there is no windfall for the stadium

Or, whichever club sells us the midfielder we want will just jack the price up that extra bit . . .

I think your looking at about 20m to buy back the present stadium and build it up to say 16000 which is all you'd get on our present site, which is no where near enough for a progressive premier league club, as we're constantly being told we are. Which is why I think the club thinks it's a waste of money to buy back the old stadium, so it's obviously it's a D for me and I think we need a midfielder.

To all of you saying that we should only invest in the team and not the infrastructure are you not concerned at what might await us if we get relegated? If this happens we will have lost our main income stream and be playing in a stadium that we still don't own. Essentially we will be back where we were 10 years ago and struglling to stay afloat on a day to day basis.

The figure talked about to buy back the stadium was less than £10 million. A larger temporary Ted Shed a la Fulham would cost nowhere near £10 million so the club wouldn't have to shell out much more than £10 million to get to this position. And before we start talking about the club not being able to afford to buy back the stadium Pompey did this in League 2 with far less resources than we have at our disposal as they saw owning their ground as crucial to their future. I think we will live to regret it if we still don't own our home when our premier league adventure ends.

I say let’s get a list of Liverpool’s reserve team subs bench, put a blindfold on, Stab at it with a compass and offer 28m for the player it lands on.

Then use the rest to do a years worth of Friday big shops at Waitrose.

For clarification I liked that post for the 'big shops' comment.

Some of what money? There's about 30-40 mil left over for transfers after our wage bill, that's not even enough to sign 1 Lewis Dunk per year in the current market.
Exactly. There is not enough money to remain competitive and build a new stadium (or even buy back and increase). It's one or the other and obviously staying in the Premier League is the priority for Max.

I think we all want a new stadium and we can keep on debating this until we're blue in the face on here, but it just isn't going to happen unless somebody else comes in to fund it.

How come that most other clubs manage to find money to improve their grounds to benefit their fans then? Watford, Wolves, Burnley just to name a few have done their utmost to facilitate as many fans as possible getting to watch their games. Why are we such a special case? Many lower division clubs also manage to do this without a fraction of the financial riches that AFCB have.

The fact still remains that the club will have been in the premier league for five years and there will be no legacy from this period in terms of making AFCB more substainable going forward. You only have to look at clubs like Pompey and Bolton to see how quickly things can unravel if the benefactor pulls the plug and the club is living above its means.

And we're screwed if we go down as without the premier league money we are not viable financially! Hey ho, let's enjoy it while it lasts.

Because they can multi-purpose parts of their stadiums, also the own their stadiums, or have decent deals with councils, and aren't in the middle of negotiations with a pretty crappy landlord

How are we not viable??? You don't think that the players have relegation clauses in their contracts?? You think we get to sign Lerma for 28M if we're in the Championship?? Sounds a bit like panic or dare I say it bed-wetting from here

We are just making excuses for the owners, other clubs also have challenges but still have managed to progress. A larger Ted Shed would have been an easy win for the club.

It's not bed wetting, I have a long memory of previous hard times and have no wish to go there again. Many clubs have financial issues when relegated and they have mostly had significantly larger fan bases than us.

Well we're doing our best to make sure we don't have a larger fanbase, but that doesn't shield the club from possible relegation.
