Tyrone Mings

A bit rosy that tint today BC.
I have never considered Cook apt for a call up.
Ramsdale as 2nd keeper maybe.
And Callum has done nothing to earn a place first 3 games.

Nope. Mings has played a handful of premier league games, lacks experience and isn’t as good as Steve Cook in my opinion

Sorry to have to say, but imo, a reliably fit Mings is better than Cook.

Through AFCB tinted glasses (as Al would say) our fans are always saying Ake and Cook are first class CB's.

So why then do AFCB concede so many goals each year.
Why hasn’t Cook been even close to an England call up.
And whilst Ake is a regular Dutch squad member, he rarely ever starts a game for The Netherlands.
Why?

It's a silly argument because Mings cannot play right centre back.
If he could, he would have played more often.

Just like Mings couldn't get a game ahead of Ake at left centre back - so Ake can't get a game ahead of van Dijk.
They have used Ake as a left wing back before, with mixed results (as you might expect).

Aston Villa is instantly part of that 'big club' thing that attracts England managers, as opposed to recruitment fro clubs like ours, for players that won't win you games... Callum is a forward and on form, he can win you games...

As for Cook and Ake not been chosen or close to starting for their respective countries, I don't claim to know the answer, but last time I looked football is a team sport... Our defence is only as strong as the 4 guys in front of them. The GA column was the responsibility of 11 players not two CBs.

You could also argue why Smith has never had a call-up... Rose-tinted I don't know, but for me he is up there as one of the best English RBs in the PL. He should have at least had a call-up by now... IMO.

I like Cook, although I don't think he's international class, but Mings has great potential and could be. Shame he got the injuries and was competing with Ake for the same spot at AFCB, especially as I think Ake might end up back at Chelsea next year.

It's noticeable that the defence looks better ever since Billing joined.

We are loaded at RB unfortunately. Smith has been poor so far this season but even on form he is behind Wan Bisaka, Walker, TAA and Trippier. Possibly Walker-Peters too

Fair play to Mings.....he has worked hard to get back to fitness and into form. I am surprised still as I don't feel he is at that level just now.

If there is extra payment due from Villa re Mings call-up, does it activate upon squad call-up or an actual cap.?

1. We concede so many goals because our midfield is paper thin and is constantly putting the defence under pressure. To put this on the individual talents of our defenders is foolish.

2. Couldn’t tell you. He’s better than Dunk and Mings and yet they’ve both been called up. File him next to Smith and Daniels in this regard.

3. He’s behind Van Dijk and De Ligt! Ballon dor candidate and golden boy winner.

It was said that there were £6.2M in add ons.

I would imagine some of that was for an England call up/Appearances, and staying up.

As I understood it, it was £20m guaranteed for us (in instalments like 99% of deals), £1.5m paid directly to Ipswich for their sell on and another 5m in add ons. The add ons do indeed include international caps. Total potential deal is £26.5m although the maximum we can receive is £25m.

I'm not sure we need a 'who's best' thing going on between Mings and Cook ....they are different types of defender to me. I think Cook has been unlucky to not get a call up, I think he's better than Dunk and on a level with Tarkowski for examples.
As for Smithy and Charlie....they have both had spells where they could have easily made the squad....but we are actually fairly well off at RB and LB in reality for England.
