Non - Pandemic

I'm still not sure what you are trying to point out Red but I'll reiterate what I've already said.

Most years seasonal flu kills tens of thousands in this country, sepsis kills many more and bacterial pneumonia about 29,000.

The latter two affects people of all ages not just the elderly and frail.

My points are that resources although limited should encompass these conditions that currently and historically have killed many more people than Covid.

I'm simply pointing out that a few weeks ago you were basically sweeping it under the carpet, saying it was scaremongering and suggesting resources should go elsewhere.

You got it wrong, lets be honest my guess is most people down your corridor don't really have a scooby how this will pan out. Haven't the treasury just thrown £12 billion at it ?

 Once more for emphasis...the Chinese eat Bats....Bats carry Germs.....

....don't get me wrong..eating Bats is no less moral than eating Pigs...but its best to boil them properly before sticking them in a soup or stew.

I am with you Red. A lot of critics of the WHO for their delayed reaction. Now giving advice that credible critics were recommending (and I have been following) a month ago. Even the delay in labelling it a pandemic is overdue. It’s a long list of additional negative points - I don’t have the expertise to comment on those.

As Docmandu outlines, there are personal responses that people can take and that can vary by individual. What we are seeing is the impact of exponential growth. In this situation I am not treating this like bad flu.

If you are a layman talking tactics on here you get told your opinion doesn’t count as you are not an expert.

if you are a doctor talking medicine on here you get told your opinion doesn’t count by laymen.

Strange old world. It’s Del and Red House as well... the irony.

Whatever your medical specialism your knowledge of Covid-19 will be high. My sisters specialism is ovarian cancer but she is also a Covid-19 expert because people on chemotherapy are at huge risk as they have few white blood cells left to fight infection.

She shares @docmandu view (which people don’t seem to be reading correctly) that this is a dreadful illness which will claim many lives but less lives than other critical illnesses which may now be put on the back burner a bit.

I think I know whose opinion I will go with.

Well, each to their own Neil. Reality is there are a still a lot of unknowns. I think Italy has some interesting data that means other health professionals hold different views to you and the Doc.

If you look at what I've said on the issue it was to say to Billy, who'd said that he would follow Doc's advice from now on, that he should more rightly follow the official advice than some anonymous bloke on the Internet.

I'm a surveyor, I will talk about general surveying issues but I wouldn't give advice about specifics if I thought people would rely on that advice. I had to study professional ethics for years and have it drilled into me that you should only give advice in a professional capacity and not in an informal setting. This is to protect clients and maintain the integrity of the industry.

... and my job isn't life and death.

We've got official advice coming out of our ears on this subject, why do we need informal advice from unverified people? We don't.

I also know who's opinions I will go with, the people who stand up officially and put their name and reputation on it.

From my limited knowledge of what my wife tells me, who works in the care industry, it's the sepsis and pneumonia which is the big killer of the elderly and frail. So the doc is right in my limited opinion. Tom Hanks has it now, and like the bulk of others who are basically healthy, the symptoms are mostly like a very heavy cold.

Thats simply not true Red. I've always said that this is predominantly a disease that will be fatal to the elderly, the frail and people with significant comorbidities. Hence my recent post to Bill.

I have never said resources should go elsewhere but have continually stated that currently this outbreak is not as much of a threat to life as our seasonal flu outbreaks killing about 10-15,000 people most years, bacterial pneumonia killing 29,000 last year and sepsis.

Those figures put this is perspective but I sincerely hope it doesn't approach those seasonal flu numbers and as I've stated time and time again no one with flu was previously asked to self isolate. This may well change.

Think about this for a moment .... although figures for this seasons flu death rate have not yet emerged they are likely to be thousands and thousands as happens most years. No one in the news is talking much about seasonal flu because the media frenzy has been diverted to Corona. Don't ask me why.

I think part of the problem is all those other diseases aren't going to stop but there won't be enough resources to treat them so they will kill more people than normal
Basically don't get ill over the next few months

Well that tactic of official advice and not believing the internet should apply to all issues. Especially things like Brexit.

Trump bans all European USA flights for a month....except the UK!

Seems a strange decision. Whilst people can still travel to the UK from Europe, there’s nothing to stop people travelling to the UK to then travel to the USA.

3,000 odd Atheltico Madrid fans were in Liverpool last night. They’re not allowed to attend large gathering of people as Madrid is the epicentre of the virus in Spain.. but going to Anfield was perfectly fine.

...well COBRA may close stadiums to fans from today!....or maybe just older peeps will be denied to attend, puts some strain on Stewarding!

In UEFA and the UK, money is God. Any ban on matches will cripple small.clubs in lower leagues. Not so the big clubs. The UK has developed a low wage, non contract, part time work force. Any work ban will.push this country to the brink as a third of workers will face financial distress.
