Non - Pandemic

NHS staff have been banging on about PPE for weeks - today they said we'd always had enough so why isn't it where it's needed?

The WHO said we need to massively ramp up testing at least three weeks ago - today they said there's a shortage worldwide but this shortage apparently doesn't affect Germany or South Korea. Wtf is going on with testing for NHS staff? This has been highlighted as an issue for weeks, we're wrecking our economy for months on end so they should stop at nothing to bloody sort the f*cking thing out!

There are drive through testing places in the UAE now... If they can do that there's no excuse for the NHS not to be able to test staff.

As if the NHS haven't got enough to put up with.....Rick Ashley is going to put on a free concert for them when this shut Down is over !! :eek!:

The army officer in charge of the emergency Nightingale hospital project has likened it to the Battle Of The Somme.

Not the wisest analogy, I would have thought.

Unless he wants to say that thousands upon thousands of brave souls will be sent to a ghastly and unnecessary death through a combination of strategic blunders and incompetent leadership.

Lions led by donkeys. That's what they said 100 years ago.....

Anyone else turned the calendar over to April today, and realised it's totally pointless because everything on it is null and void.

Would be interested to see how the sad figure today correlates with the predicted trend and whereabouts on the curve we are. A couple of weeks off peak still?

It depends how you define the peak. Is it when the actual number of new cases drops or is when the total cases starts to drop. By that I mean there are more people recovering per day than getting infected.

If it’s the latter then it might not be until well into the summer

Germany....doing better so far, on death ratio per population.. but our government won't admit it....coming out with bullsh#t about demographics..... Germans are just quicker to act and better organisers.
Testing younger people as a priority...seems a good idea to me...its the young mainly who have to work in the hospitals!
Tell you somink else for nought.....looking at the body language at the daily update.....there will be some big tempers raging behind the scenes, all about Money spent of course,.....if Boris is incapacitated for long, then who is the strong man... Gove I reckon...unfortunately . This is right up his street!

I’ll go for that socialist chancellor bloke.

Well I've been to our local Tesco and its partly turned into a mini garden centre, they have a large portion of the end aisle full of plants. Previously they only sold a few bedding plants in the porch area. I'm only raising this as the local garden centres have been forced to close. I really hope they are sourcing these products locally from places that can't open and not simply profiteering.

I'd be interested in the thoughts of @Ken Baileys Ghost as people were coming out with trolleys full of compost and Acers for a tenner.

I don't understand why they can't have a proper queuing system at garden centres and builders merchants to allow them to operate in the same way supermarkets do. Enforce this strictly by all means but surely they should help people to spend time at home.

I’m guessing we should be doing anything to stop people venturing out at all.

A very aware nurse at our GP surgery noticed that neither my wife or I was on the high risk list despite both being very high. She set it all up for us on the Gov site and today we've been getting texts from supermarkets saying they will try and get deliveries out to us asap. Thanks Elaine! Must admit being stuck in is doing my head in, would love to go half a mile down the road and look across the fields towards the river. But I know I mustn't!

As somebody who relies on garden centres for 95% of his turnover, I tend to agree. :grinning:

Our trade bodies are lobbying hard for this, and also a 200 million pound scheme to help towards all the stock we've skipped.
And before you lot start, here are some figures.

"The campaign says £200m of seasonal plants will have to be scrapped across the ornamental horticulture industry as 70% of bedding sales are between March-May. If one-third of ornamental producers go out of business, that would mean a loss of £250m in direct Gross Domestic Product.
If garden centres remain shut because of the coronavirus crisis, the horticulture industry will lose £687m by the end of June and £1.2bn by the end of 2020.
The new figures estimate around UK 650 businesses produce ornamental crops, contributing £1.4 billion to UK GDP annually and employing 15,000 people directly and almost 30,000 indirectly."

This virus comes after the worst Jan/march quarter we have ever had due to the huge amount of rain had (Cue Reservoir Red's claims that it was 'only a bit of drizzle'). The virus arrived with the sun, and our get of jail card of a decent spring disappeared.

That would have been my reaction but I got dragged to Take That and he was support and bloody brilliant!

Nice cover story. I think we've all realised by now this whole coronavirus came from the horticultural industry. Now you've managed to clear the streets of most of the humans you'll no doubt soon be moving onto stage 2 of your dastardly plan...

Actually, calling someone dastardly on here is probably going a bit far given it's historical connotations. I'll withdraw that and change it to despicable.

KBG..if Stalag 13, I mean Tesco suddenly turn into Haskins overnight, can you not sell some bedding plants outside the Farm shop ? Same thing isn't it?

I say Stalag 13 as Tesco have employed a security firm that look like they've been hired by a pub in London Bridge to control 2000 visiting Leeds fans. Even worse than those Yeovil stewards on our last visit. " You see those blue circles on the floor, that means you stand there, not put your trolley there ...get it "

Are you referring to Dick?
