PL legacy

that's another thing I wont miss, rubbish journalism
pathetic attempt at shoehorning our experience to fit their narrative
Thought the premise of the article was a good one.

Isn't he saying if you get a pay rise you shouldn't go out and buy a new car because you might get sacked next week?
If you get sacked, you can always sell the car.
Clubs not spending money like Norwich, never really had a chance of avoiding relegation, what is the point of being promoted.

I took it more as a motivation thing. Breaking the glass ceiling has to be the ambition of 2/3rds of Premier League clubs. Breaking into a tinpot also ran European competition is prize that players should be aspiring towards...but it’s not much of a prize.

For example Howe highlighted club records and player records for our players to go out and beat, that kept the momentum going post promotion for a while. But when you get to the realms of “let’s push for 8th” or let’s push for xyz it’s less and less inspiring.

And that has been an issue for other clubs, which was my take on the article.

The likes of Norwich and Burnley are well run clubs at the moment, neither will set the Premier league on fire though. The owners of those clubs are looking at a long term progression. I'm almost sure those two clubs will be up and down for years to come. I can't see that happening with us. We've gone for broke, not invested in vital infrastructure and the supporters will be the ones who suffer in the end, some fans seem quite happy with that prospect.

No one is happy with not having a bigger ground no matter how many times you say it.

Let’s suppose we had invested in infrastructure rather than the playing squad once promotion was secured. Where do you think we’d be now?

My guess is 7500 crowds in a 25000 seat stadium in L1. Perhaps that’s not such a bad outcome in the context of the level AFCB have been at historically. The concern would what level of debt we are servicing to pay for the stadium.

Ideally, I’d like to have moved the pitch 20 metres towards the car park and built a new South Stand. Gradually over time we could have rebuilt the other stands to a larger capacity, with a 2 tier NS further away from the houses.

Ultimately Structudene had us over a barrel for any kind of rebuild to be viable. It’s easy to criticise but there was no way for everyone to be happy

7500 crowds in L1, I really doubt that many regulars at the moment will still keep coming in L1, I would say 5k attendance would be a good day back in L1. we would of ended up closing down 1 stand to cut costs, if we were to drop to L1 then we have the perfect ground for what we would need, if we were to just cruise along in championship then I would say another 2-3k would be enough. As much as we think we have more support we only have extra supporters who want to see the top players from the Manchester clubs Liverpool Chelsea etc, we shouldn't kid ourselves with support if 1k of those stay if we were in L1 then I would say we done very well. I think the club done the right thing not building a new stadium but would of liked them to push to buy our home back just so we had future options

Who said anything about a ground in my last post? Infrastructure, yes, that doesn't just involve a ground. Max is about to find out how much your business model will cost him.

Any attendance figures are dependent on how we’re doing. I’m pretty sure, standing to be corrected, we were averaging 7000+ during the John Bond and Harry Redknap eras, playing exciting football and threatening promotion.

I thought we averaged twelve thousand crowds in Bond days

The reason I think 7500 with a new stadium in L1 is because we’ve seen clubs like Reading increase their crowds from their historical average with a new stadium.

I think the 5k figure is way off as we’ve been averaging about 6400 in L1 ever since we moved into the current stadium. In fact our lowest ever season was 5504 in 2007/08.

So in some respects, rebuilding from L1 might not be such a bad idea with the infrastructure in place but the elephant in the room is the debt situation we would inevitably find ourselves in.

The hard core are getting older and hold the ace in the pack the season ticket. Long term as other generations have missed out because they couldn't get a ticket, acknowledging the kids in town wearing the shirts, would lower league live football appeal to those used to seeing the Premier League on tv at times they appear to like?

I've noticed in the last week or so lots of kids (or little shits, as I prefer to call them) wearing scummer shirts around the area - broadstone / corfe mullen seems to be a particular hotbed! I assume they are either glorying in their relative recent "success", or rubbing their bormuff mates noses in it. Join me in trying to run them over if you see any, we need to stop this before it escalates.

I said 5k because In our promotion season our average was only 6800ish ( if I remember correctly) and the season before that, the avaerage was around 5800 ( again someone please find out for sure) but the relagation season we were around 5500, so it seems around the 5500 mark is fair if we're just mid table, so maybe 6k would be a realistic average to aim for in that league but your 7.5k figure is a good aim, but the point is our stadium is big enough for either and being more full would give better atmosphere, new stadium would be nice dont get me wrong but I would hate to leave our current home

Burnley and Norwich don't spend anywhere near the percentage of their income on wages that we do. Burnley play from the Charles Hughes book of association football and Norwich are quite comfortable being a yoyo club. ( or at least Delia is ) The Norwich way may be something that we have to aspire to in the future, if we're lucky. This in my humble opinion is the only way that we will ever be able to buy Dean Court back. Try to arrange a deal with Structadene while we are in the championship and pray that Max and Eddie are in it for the long haul.

It’s a shame we couldn’t push on to the level of Leicester, Wolves, Sheffield even Burnley so given that our level in this league will be around 10-18 I’d go for a couple of seasons challenging for the Championship and a couple of seasons rattling some big cages now and again. It would be great to see the trophy gracing the shop again. Think of the hands that have lifted that old pot.

I would impose a lifetime lockdown on them.
