Players we want out in the summer-

Ask everyone if they want to play for the club next season to give it 100% or wants to leave. Don’t keep anyone who wants to go, recoup as much as we can on transfers and rebuild. Don’t turn down bids as we did this season.

The second half today made me most angry this season - and there have been many frustrating matches. First half showed fluidity and organisation (apart from a soft goal) but second half was pathetic with JW’s substitutions compounding the problem with no corrective action.

It’s far easier to list the players I’d like to see us keep:
Ben Pearson
CCV
Jack Stacey
Dom Solanke
Obviously don’t want literally everybody else to leave as you can’t lose an entire squad and expect anything other than relegation, but am completely indifferent to anyone other than the four listed leaving. There are a few I’d actively love to see the back of, Billing and Mepham being obvious examples. I’d get as much money as we can for Danjuma Brooks Lerma and Rico and look to rebuild with a hungry group of players who are up for a fight.

Billing is a toxic player - went down with Huddersfield and us and failed this season with us too.
Should have headed the warnings of the Huddersfield fans - I still can't believe Eddie bought in a personality like his
A bit harsh on billing . He didn’t have the best game yesterday but once again played out of position .
In recent weeks have been one of our better players and an easy target

Who are the players we could get a decent fee for ?

Brooks...£20 million if we're very lucky ?
Lerma...£10 million maybe ?
Danjuma £10 million ?

Anyone else ?

I know the board needs a clear out (Neil Blake.....) but the shear lack of leadership and quality on the pitch is worrying to say the least. If we want to re-build we need to clear some players out! So who?

My picks are:

Steve Cook - Has been a great servant to the club for many years and arguably on of the best, but as the captain it's his responsibility to kick the players up the a*se so to speak but he simply is not doing this and his passes are shoddy. Yes some of them are great balls to the strikers but his simple short balls are intercepted far to often! We could sell him for a couple of million max and that's enough to get a replacement in the championship. Sorry but his time has come

Adam Smith - I know what your thinking, this is just a list of the old guard but i promise its not! Smithy was a stand out performer in the premier league but after coming down he has lost his signature pace which could glide past defenders and get a good cross in. He is not doing this anymore! His defending has never been his strong point but somehow it has got worse. So whats the point of him anymore? It may be harsh but now is the time to be...

Lewis Cook - This is a more difficult one because he has been a stand out performer this season so why would we really want to get rid of him? Ill tell you - MONEY! He could achieve a pretty figure to the right club maybe £10 - 12 million if we play our cards right. We obviously won't but one lives in hope....

Billing - See above but perhaps less money involved. I would be hesitant to sell both however unless we we sure a solid replacement was coming in or we signed Wilshere.

Brooks - This is simple, he has done nothing all season, constantly injured and thinks he's better than he is. Honestly sell him for free just to save on his wages

Kelly or Rico - Neither have been brilliant, i am personally a Rico fan but I can't deny he has been rubbish. If one goes Zemura goes up a step which is a win win!

Kilkenny - Sorry and all but i don't think he has it. I would sell him to a lower league club with a sell on clause just in case he becomes amazing. Again it moves someone else up the pecking order.

DOMINIC SOLANKE - Well now we come to Solanke... We signed him for £19mil thinking he would be the next Jermaine Defoe i'm guessing, but how wrong we were! Don't get me wrong he had a better game today but they are too few and far between. He has scored 11 this season which is the joint top but for a young experienced striker like himself, he should have nearly double that if you take into consideration the amount of shots and chances he has had! It is time to admit they were wrong to sign him and let him go before the loss of money gets any bigger with his wages.

Some others may go such as Mepham and Stanislas or Danjuma even but i would keep RORO because in the few minutes he has played he has impressed me. For such a young and inexperienced player, he looks confident and there is a lot of room for improvement which I find exiting. I would also obviously keep Carter-Vickers because he has been a brick wall in the defense.

I know many of you may disagree with me completely and i'm fine with that. I am interested to see what players other fans would sell and keep.
Great points, well made and after all it's all about opinions. I remember getting slaughtered on here in Jan 2020 for saying we should let Josh King go 'in the middle of a relegation scrap' to Man U for £25M as he clearly wanted out.
I'd keep Cooky as he'll be just what we need in Div 3.

Problem is those fees are lower than what we paid for the latter two. Given the egos of our board members, can you see them accepting a loss of that scale on them both? And I’d be amazed if we could get 10m for Brooks as it currently stands, has missed not far off half of the season (yet again) and has been mostly poor when he has played. He needs to prove that he can actually stay fit and perform before someone bids for him. Will be astounded if he’s not still here.

I think Steve Cook might want out...as the last regular of the old guard, I think there might be something not right between him and some of the newer additions..he knows what the attitudes and spirit should be from players, for this club to emulate the previous elevation to the PL....it hasn't gelled together consistently enough so there must still be divisions and unrest in the squad. The pressure on him as Captain is surely telling now...he will be aware of the Fans discontent...how much more can he take ?

Which afcb players would you sign
a as manager of a top 6 pl club
b as manager of a mid table pl club
c as manager of a relegation fighting pl club

True enough, which of our stars who moved on have really shone this season ?

Ake- Has been injured and warms the bench
Wilson-has done ok,top goalscorer but his team is in a relegation battle
Fraser-never starts
King -ditto
Ramsdale-Champo next season for him.

Plenty of them will get moves though purely because they have Prem experience.

I’m sure someone has probably already made the same point. But whilst I do enjoy these kind of threads it does make me smirk every time it comes up.

Playing football manager you might be able to do a complete overhaul of a squad in a couple of hours, but in reality it takes several seasons.

There might be half a dozen players you want to get rid of, but if no one wants them they won’t be going anywhere.

Equally the players available might not be the players you want them to be when they first arrive, it might take time, sometimes a couple of years for them to flourish.

That’s why I was saying last season that we were a squad in transition. Now it’s a squad in transition, having lost the quality around it and the management that would help them develop.

What’s actually needed is improving on what we have, finding the missing ingredient to make this bunch of misfits an actual team.

Then over time the players nudged out of contention will eventually move on.

The squad comes a couple of steps down the priority list to be resolved.

First there's the board, they need to think about the clubs direction. That stems from Max, and lands on Blake, Hughes etc.

Second there's the manager. It feels like Woodgate is basically a glorified caretaker, just like Tindall turns out to have been (re Hughes trying to get Parker who now seems out of reach).

Only once those large pieces of the puzzle are in place, can the squad be more productively sorted through. Get the overall strategy figured out before you get down to tactics.
